Implementing universal newborn hearing screening in the French Rhône-Alpes region. State of affairs in 2016 and the 1st half of 2017.

Introduction: Universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) started as public health policy in 2015 in the French Rhône-Alpes region, aiming to screen for unilateral and bilateral hearing loss. After a first and second screening (retest) in the maternity hospital, the diagnostic process occurred at a limited number of specialist centers. A deferred preliminary screening (T3) was proposed before the age of 1 month.

[Scoliosis secondary to tuberculous spondylitis: A case report and discussion of diagnosis].

Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common form of spinal deformity in adolescence. However, secondary causes of scoliosis should always be considered so as to provide appropriate treatment and avoid complications. Additional explorations, such as MRI, are required in the presence of atypical signs.

Dose-related inversion of cinnarizine and flunarizine effects on mitochondrial permeability transition.

We investigated the effects of cinnarizine and flunarizine on mitochondrial permeability transition, ATP synthesis, membrane potential and NAD(P)H oxidation. Both drugs were effective in inhibiting the mitochondrial permeability transition induced either by Ca2+ alone or in the presence of tert-butylhydroperoxide. This protective effect occurred at low concentrations (< 50 microM) of these drugs and was accompanied by the inhibition of NAD(P)H oxidation and the restoration of the mitochondrial membrane potential decreased by a high concentration of Ca2+ (25 microM).
