Microorganisms can play a significant role in material corrosion, with bacterial biofilms as major participants in microbially influenced corrosion (MIC). The exact mechanisms by which this takes place are poorly understood, resulting in a scarcity of information regarding MIC detection and prevention. In this work, a consortium of moderately thermophilic bacteria isolated from a biofilm growing over aluminum alloy 7075 was characterized.

Kelp forests are diminishing in many regions worldwide, and efforts to manage these ecosystems are hindered without accurate estimates of the value of the services that kelp forests provide to human societies. Here, we present a global estimate of the ecological and economic potential of three key ecosystem services - fisheries production, nutrient cycling, and carbon removal provided by six major forest forming kelp genera (Ecklonia, Laminaria, Lessonia, Macrocystis, Nereocystis, and Saccharina).

To face the current challenge for transitioning toward more sustainable and ecological production methods, bacterial biosynthesis of MeNPs, especially from extremophilic microorganisms, emerges as a suitable alternative with intrinsic added benefits like improved stability and biocompatibility. Currently, biogenic nanoparticles of different relevant metals have been successfully achieved using different bacterial strains.

Uncertainties in exact stock-environment relationships have meant that environmental variability and extremes have been difficult to integrate directly into fisheries management. We applied a management strategy evaluation approach for one of Australia's large prawn stocks to test the robustness of harvest control rules to environmental variability.
