The rete ovarii and epoophoron in females are homologous structures of the rete testis and efferent/epididymal duct in males and are derived from the developing rete cells and mesonephric tubules, respectively. Sex steroid hormones play a critical role in reproductive function for both sexes, and we recently reported expression patterns of sex steroid receptors in developing male reproductive tracts. However, their expression patterns in females remain unclear.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAldosterone is a cardiovascular hormone with a key role in blood pressure regulation, among other processes, mediated through its targeting of the mineralocorticoid receptor in the renal tubule and selected other tissues. Its secretion from the adrenal gland is a highly controlled process subject to regulatory influence from the renin-angiotensin system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. MicroRNAs are small endogenous non-coding RNA molecules capable of regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally through stimulation of mRNA degradation or suppression of translation.

Marginalization and historically grounded fears of stigmatization have contributed to a reluctance to disclose sexual behavior and/or gender identity to health care providers. We reflect on how student nurses grappled with the ethics of patient disclosure while providing mobile outreach in Chicago for mpox (formerly monkeypox) from fall 2022 to spring 2023.

The estrogen pathway through estrogen receptor (ESR1) is also a major contributor to rete testis and efferent duct formation, but the role of progesterone via progesterone receptor (PGR) has largely been overlooked. Expression patterns of these receptors in the mesonephric tubules (MTs) and Wolffian duct (WD), which differentiate into the efferent ductules and epididymis, respectively, remain unclear because of the difficulty in distinguishing each region of the tracts.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLymphoma is the most common hematological malignancy and is among the 10 most prevalent cancers worldwide. Although survival has been improved by modern immunochemotherapeutic regimens, there remains a significant need for novel targeted agents to treat both B-cell and T-cell malignancies. Cytidine triphosphate synthase 1 (CTPS1), which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in pyrimidine synthesis, plays an essential and nonredundant role in B-cell and T-cell proliferation but is complemented by the homologous CTPS2 isoform outside the hemopoietic system.
