Natural history of cavernous malformations in children with brain tumors treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Cavernous malformations (CM) are cerebral irradiation-related late complications. Little is known about their natural history and the pathogenetic role of concomitant chemotherapy. We present a retrospective, single-institution study of 108 children affected with medulloblastoma, ependymoma, or germinoma treated with radio- and chemotherapy.

Epidemiology of febrile neutropenia in children with central nervous system tumor: results from a single center prospective study.

Data regarding the epidemiology febrile neutropenia during chemotherapy for pediatric central nervous system neoplasia are scarce. Data retrieved from a prospective study performed from January 2002 to December 2004 at G.Gaslini Children Hospital, Genoa, Italy, where analyzed to evaluate proportions, rate for 1000 neutropenic days and etiology of fever in neutropenic children receiving gentle, standard, or peripheral blood stem cell transplant (PBSCT) therapy for central nervous system tumor.

Natural course of HCV infection in childhood cancer survivors.

Goals Of Work: To describe the course of hepatitis C in a cohort of 105 survivors after childhood cancer.

Patients And Methods: Data on chemo/radiotherapy, clinical status, serial alanine aminotransferase (ALT) evaluation, and virological parameters after the end of treatment were collected for each patient. Liver biopsies, when performed, were centrally evaluated by a pathologist.

Anti-varicella-zoster vaccination in contacts of children receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy: a prospective pilot study.

Varicella may be a severe infection in children with malignancy. Varicella vaccination is either not recommended for immunocompromised children or it requires temporary discontinuation of immunosuppression. We prospectively evaluated the feasibility of a varicella vaccination programme of household contacts of varicella-negative children receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy.

[Difficulty in diagnosing pediatric tuberculosis].

Tuberculosis (TB) in children is an important warning sign in a community, as it could signal recent infection of a cavitary form in an adult. Thus, while early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment in children, it is also imperative for the control of tuberculosis at the public health level since it allows rapid identification of contagious adult cases. Here we report four cases of difficult and delayed diagnosis of TB in children.
