Concordance in Intraoperative Surgeons' Opinion in the Diagnosis and Management of Acute Appendicitis: The Role of Training.

Objective: Acute appendicitis is a wide spectrum disease, from simple inflammation to evident intestinal perforation. The correct interpretation of the degree of inflammation is crucial to guarantee appropriate treatment and adherence to protocols and guidelines. In order to investigate this concordance, the authors compared the definition of appendicitis and the predicted treatment among all surgeons affiliated to a single Pediatric Surgery School (consisting of 8 different centers).

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy in children receiving peritoneal dialysis: A tertiary centre long-term experience and literature review.

Background: Children with severe chronic kidney disease receiving maintenance peritoneal dialysis (PD) are often malnourished and may require nutritional supplementation. Recent PD guidelines address laparoscopic and open surgical gastrostomy as safe approaches in children established on PD, while existing evidence on percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is still lacking; as well as the role of perioperative antibiotic and antifungal prophylaxis. Hence, this study aimed to report our experience with PEG placement in patients on PD and compare it with the available literature.

Foreign body ingestion in children: Definition of a nomogram to predict surgical or endoscopic intervention.

Background And Aims: Foreign body ingestion (FBI) in children requires early identification to prevent adverse outcomes and may necessitate endoscopic or surgical intervention. This study aims to develop a nomogram that identifies children who require urgent surgical or endoscopic intervention by using the patient's medical history and clinical parameters collected at admission.

Methods: This study is a retrospective review (01/2015-12/2020) of a multicenter case series of children admitted for FBI.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Esophageal Atresia: Is It Really a New Disease?

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, immune-mediated esophageal disease. Symptoms are related to mucosal eosinophilic-predominant inflammation that leads to esophageal dysfunction. Recent data suggest that esophageal atresia (EA) patients may have an increased incidence of EoE compared to the general population.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric endoscopy: A multicenter study on behalf of the SIGENP Endoscopy Working Group.

Background: Aim of the present report was to investigate the repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic on the procedural volumes and on the main indications of pediatric digestive endoscopy in Italy.

Methods: An online survey was distributed at the beginning of December 2020 to Italian digestive endoscopy centers. Data were collected comparing two selected time intervals: the first from 1st of February 2019 to 30th June 2019 and the second from 1st February 2020 to 30th June 2020.
