Patient and healthcare providers' perspectives on participation in a postpartum pilot trial of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis: A qualitative study.

Background: There is a need to better understand barriers to recruitment and participation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating postpartum thromboprophylaxis, as previous trials had low recruitment and were not feasible. In a qualitative interview study of the pilot PARTUM trial (a feasibility trial of low-dose aspirin versus placebo for six weeks postpartum), we explored the facilitators and barriers to trial involvement.

Methods: Patients eligible for the pilot PARTUM trial, including those who declined joining the trial, were invited to participate in a qualitative study.

Genomic relatedness of colonizing and invasive disease Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates in South African infants.

Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPn) colonizes multiple anatomical sites and is a leading cause of invasive disease and death in African children; however, there is no comparative genomic analysis between colonizing and invasive strains. This study investigated the genomic relatedness of KPn colonizing and invasive isolates in South African infants; and evaluated the relative invasiveness of KPn isolates based on sequence types (ST), capsular (KL), and lipopolysaccharide (O) loci by calculating case-carrier ratios (CCRs). There was less genomic diversity amongst invasive (22 ST, 17 K-loci) than colonizing isolates (31 ST, 29 K-loci), with invasive isolates being 8.

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) allows direct imaging of atomic- or molecular-scale surface structures in liquid. However, such subnanoscale measurements are often sensitive to the AFM tip properties. To overcome this problem, 30 nm Si-sputter coating was proposed, and its effectiveness in improving stability and reproducibility has been demonstrated in atomic-scale imaging of various materials.

Evaluating the Efficacy of a Serious Game to Deliver Health Education About Invasive Meningococcal Disease: Clustered Randomized Controlled Equivalence Trial.

Background: Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is a serious, vaccine-preventable infectious disease that can be life-threatening. Teaching adolescents about the early detection and prevention of IMD can be challenging in a school environment, with educators reporting they lack confidence or expertise to cover this in the classroom environment. Professional guest educators are an alternative to cover specialist topics such as IMD; however, time and resourcing constraints can mean that these educators are not always available.

Primary Care Physicians' Responses to Treatment Burden in People With Type 2 Diabetes: A Qualitative Video Analysis in China.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the approaches general practitioners (GPs) use to respond to the treatment burden faced by people with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 29 videos of GP-patient consultations in an academic general practice clinic in China. Thematic analysis and a framework matrix approach were used to identify patterns in GPs' responses to the identified issues.
