Does adjuvant radiation therapy increase loco-regional control after optimal resection of soft-tissue sarcoma of the extremities?

Adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) is routinely recommended for most soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) of the extremities. However, its impact on local control is not clearly established after wide complete excision. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent wide resection in our institution (first or second resection in cases of incomplete surgery) and either did or did not receive adjuvant RT.

[Assessment of the cost of first line chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer. Preliminary results in the FFCD 9601 trial].

Aim: The objective of the study was to estimate the cost of first line chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer treated in the Gustave-Roussy Institute. Patients were randomized in the study FFCD 9601 with four schedules of treatment: Tomudex(R), 5FU weekly, LV5FU2 with low dose of folinic acid and LV5FU2 with high dose of folinic acid.

Patients And Methods: Thirty three patients were included prospectively from March 1997 to April 1999.

Sodium iodide symporter and pendrin expression in human thyroid tissues.

Thyroid cells synthesize thyroid hormones through a multistep process during which iodide is transported through the basolateral and the apical membranes of thyrocytes. Two genes that participate in these transports and the corresponding proteins, namely sodium iodide symporter (NIS) and pendrin, the product of the Pendred syndrome gene, have recently been characterized. We studied NIS and pendrin expression at the mRNA and protein levels by a quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method and by single and double immunostaining in normal and pathological human thyroid tissues.

Polyadenylic-polyuridylic acid plus locoregional radiotherapy versus chemotherapy with CMF in operable breast cancer: a 14 year follow-up analysis of a randomized trial of the Fédération Nationale des Centres de Lutte contre le Cancer (FNCLCC).

With a median follow-up of 14 years, the combination of polyadenylic-polyuridylic acid plus locoregional radiotherapy (257 patients) has significantly improved disease-free survival (p = 0.03) and significantly reduced the incidence of metastases (p = 0.04) when compared to CMF alone (260 patients), in women with operable breast cancer.
