Article Synopsis
  • The article discusses the NHSN's use of automation in public health surveillance through digital quality measures (dQMs) using an open-source tool called NHSNLink, and a pilot program (NHSNCoLab) with real-world data.
  • It focuses on leveraging FHIR APIs to enhance data collection and reporting related to significant and preventable patient harms like medication-related complications and infections.
  • The findings suggest that implementing FHIR dQMs can reduce reporting burdens while improving the accuracy, quality, and efficiency of data for public health and patient safety.

Article Synopsis
  • - Chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) is a serious condition where platelet levels drop after chemotherapy, increasing bleeding risk and complicating treatment options.
  • - Treatment often involves stopping the chemotherapy and using platelet infusions, but this is typically reserved for patients with critically low counts due to risks of autoimmune issues and infections.
  • - A novel approach using leaf extract (CPLE) showed promising results, boosting a patient's platelet count significantly, suggesting CPLE could be a viable alternative for patients who don’t respond to standard therapies.
