Advances in cardiac magnetic resonance have promoted tissue characterization with high spatial and contrast resolution, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequences have improved the detection of myocardial fibrosis. The distribution pattern of LGE facilitates differentiation between ischemic and nonischemic etiologies and aids in refining diagnoses within nonischemic cardiomyopathies, suggesting specific etiological factors. A distinctive nonischemic LGE pattern that has recently gained prominence is the ring-like pattern, defined as a subepicardial or mid-wall circumferential or semi-circumferential enhancement, which involves at least three contiguous segments within the same short-axis slice.

Background: The upper and lower respiratory tracts feature distinct environments and responses affecting microbial colonization but investigating the relationship between them is technically challenging. We aimed to identify relationships between taxa colonizing the nasopharynx and trachea across childhood.

Methods: We employed V4 16S rRNA gene sequencing to profile nasopharyngeal swabs and tracheal aspirates collected from 172 subjects between 20 weeks and 18 years of age.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is an aggressive cancer defined by oncogenic drivers and metabolic reprogramming. Here we leverage next-generation spatial screens to identify glycogen as a critical and previously underexplored oncogenic metabolite. High-throughput spatial analysis of human LUAD samples revealed that glycogen accumulation correlates with increased tumour grade and poor survival.

Background: While generally harmless to dogs, the cestode species Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis have significant zoonotic importance, causing cystic echinococcosis and alveolar echinococcosis in humans, respectively. Regular deworming is essential to treat intestinal cestode infections in dogs and to reduce environmental egg contamination and thus the subsequent zoonotic risk of infection to intermediate hosts and humans. The studies described here evaluated the efficacy of a new novel chewable tablet combination containing lotilaner, moxidectin, praziquantel and pyrantel (Credelio Quattro, Elanco Animal Health) against E.

Objectives: To evaluate and compare the rates of antibiotic prescribing by dental practitioners across the constituent countries of the United Kingdom between March 2020 and August 2023 and to estimate the total 'excess' prescribing that occurred during this interval beyond the rates predicted based upon trends between March 2016 and February 2020.

Methods: Retrospective pharmacoepidemiological study of dental practitioners' antibiotic prescribing, by secondary analysis of population-level National Health Service dispensing data from England, Scotland, Wales and Health and Social Care dispensing data from Northern Ireland.

Results: Effective August 2023, the antibiotic items dispensed rate for each country remained in excess of that predicted based upon pre-pandemic trends.
