Reintroduction programs are important tools for wildlife conservation. However, captive rearing environments may lead to maladaptive behavior and physiological alterations that reduce survival probability after release. For captive rearing programs that raise individuals captured from the wild during early ontogeny for later release, there is a lack of information about when during ontogeny the detrimental effects of captive rearing may become evident.

Quantifying cortisol concentrations in fish eggs is important to understand the effects of environmental conditions on maternal physiological condition and on egg provisioning and quality. Data are particularly relevant to studies of the ecology of threatened species such as lake sturgeon (Aciperser fulvescens) as well as assessments of larval physical and behavioral phenotypes, fish health and caviar quality in sturgeon aquaculture. This study focuses on development of bioanalytical methods for high sensitivity and robust determination of cortisol in sturgeon eggs.

In this study, we show that ICOS expression on human Th cells is not increased by IL-4, but by IL-12 and by IL-23 instead. Consequently, ICOS expression during IL-12-driven Th1 cell polarization was transiently increased compared with the levels on Th0 cells and IL-4-driven Th2 cells.

In this study we investigated whether prostaglandin subtypes metabolized from arachidonic acid (PGE2), dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (PGE1) or eicosapentaenoic acid (PGE3) have different effects on T-cell proliferation and cytokine production in vitro.
