Harnessing Internet Search Data as a Potential Tool for Medical Diagnosis: Literature Review.

Background: Access to accurate medical diagnosis has been hindered by socioeconomic disparities, limited availability of specialized medical professionals, and lack of patient education, among other factors. Inequities in access to high-quality healthcare services exacerbate these challenges, often leading to disparities in health outcomes. Missed or inaccurate diagnoses can lead to delayed or unnecessary treatments, risking worsening of the condition.

Rapid screening for inflammatory neuropathies by standardized clinical criteria.

Background: Delay in recognition and treatment of inflammatory neuropathies increases morbidity and mortality. We have developed and standardized 3 clinical screening criteria that rapidly detect inflammatory neuropathies.

Methods: We reviewed all patients with definite large fiber neuropathy in 2 different patient populations: 1 from a private neurology clinic and the other from a tertiary care center.

Orthostatic intolerance in multifocal acquired demyelinating sensory and motor neuropathy.

We report a patient with orthostatic intolerance and syncope as a major clinical manifestation of an acquired multifocal neuropathy with the clinical, electrodiagnostic, and cerebrospinal fluid features of multifocal acquired demyelinating sensory and motor neuropathy or the Lewis-Sumner syndrome. Immunomodulatory therapy led to clinical remission of both somatic and autonomic signs and symptoms. We are unaware of a previous description of symptomatic dysautonomia in this disorder.

Comparison of seizure duration, ictal EEG, and cognitive effects of ketamine and methohexital anesthesia with ECT.

The authors retrospectively compared the seizure duration, ictal EEG, and cognitive side effects of ketamine and methohexital anesthesia with ECT. This comparison was carried out with data from consecutive index ECT treatments that occurred immediately before and after a switch from methohexital to ketamine in 36 patients. Ketamine was well tolerated and prolonged seizure duration overall, but particularly in those who had a seizure duration shorter than 25 seconds with methohexital at the maximum available stimulus intensity.
