A survey of pain services for pediatric oncology patients: their composition and function.

The purpose of this survey was to examine the composition and function of pain services/teams at facilities that provide pain management services to pediatric oncology patients across the United States. A questionnaire was mailed to facilities identified by the 1994 Pain Facilities Directory as providing pain services to cancer patients. Thirty-five facilities that identified oncology patients as one of the primary pediatric populations treated at their institution were the focus of this study.

Group cognitive-behavioral therapy and group interpersonal psychotherapy for the nonpurging bulimic individual: a controlled comparison.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of group cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT) and group interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for binge eating. Fifty-six women with nonpurging bulimia were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups: CBT, IPT, or a wait-list control (WL). Treatment was administered in small groups that met for 16 weekly sessions.

Respiratory measurements of unsedated small laboratory mammals using nonrebreathing valves.

The respiratory frequency, tidal volume, minute volume, oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide output of unsedated hamsters, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits were measured to obtain comparative data and to evaluate the performance of those species as unsedated subjects. The animals were trained to remain stationary and breathe through nonrebreathing valves while expired gas was collected and respiratory frequency was monitored. Measurements of dogs also were conducted to obtained comparative data by similar methods.
