DNA Polymerase Theta (Pol θ) is a conserved an A-family polymerase that plays an essential role in repairing double strand breaks, through micro-homology end joining, and bypassing DNA lesions, through translesion synthesis, to protect genome integrity. Despite its essential role in DNA repair, Pol θ is inherently error-prone. Recently, key loop regions were identified to play an important role in key functions of Pol θ.

We conducted a retrospective population-based, matched cohort study using the National Health Insurance Research Database to estimate healthcare resource utilisation (HRU) and costs in patients with newly diagnosed AL amyloidosis in Taiwan. Cases were matched 10:1 by age, sex, and area of residence to patients without AL amyloidosis (comparators) randomly selected from the database during the same time period. Annual all-cause HRU and costs for 3 years were quantified.

In mammals, the role of interleukin-18 (IL-18) in the immune response is to drive inflammatory and, normally therefore, anti-viral responses. IL-18 also shows promise as a vaccine adjuvant in mammals. Chicken IL-18 (chIL-18) has been cloned.

The incidence rate of AL (light-chain) amyloidosis is not known in Asia. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Taiwan National Healthcare Insurance Research database and Death Registry to estimate incidence and all-cause case fatality rates, and characteristics of patients with AL amyloidosis in Taiwan. All patients with confirmed, newly diagnosed AL amyloidosis from 01-Jan-2016 until 31-Dec-2019 were enrolled and followed up until dis-enrolment, death or study end (31-Dec-2019).
