The use of cangrelor in a complex vascular patient: A case report.

Medical decision-making surrounding high risk surgical procedures requires extensive consideration about the potential risks and benefits to the patient, including implications for concomitant medications and therapies. Managing cardiovascular risk in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery is essential for safe and effective patient care. In instances where cardiac revascularization is needed prior to surgery, antiplatelet medication is also needed which can complicate future surgical procedures.

Reliability of routine anthropometric measurements to estimate body composition in term infants.

Background: Birth weight percentiles provide limited information on qualitative infant growth. Body composition provides estimates of fat mass, fat-free mass, and body fat percentage (adiposity). We sought to implement assessment of body composition at birth into clinical practice using a validated anthropometric equation and to evaluate measurement reliability.

Longitudinal changes in glucose metabolism in women with gestational diabetes, from late pregnancy to the postpartum period.

Aims/hypothesis: This study aimed to determine, in women with gestational diabetes (GDM), the changes in insulin sensitivity (Matsuda Insulin Sensitivity Index; IS), insulin response and disposition index (DI) from late pregnancy (34-37 weeks gestation, T1), to early postpartum (1-5 days, T2) and late postpartum (6-12 weeks, T3). A secondary aim was to correlate the longitudinal changes in maternal lipids, adipokines, cytokines and weight in relation to the changes in IS, insulin response and DI.

Methods: IS, insulin response and DI were calculated at the three time points (T1, T2 and T3) using the results of a 75 g OGTT.

Umbilical Cord Tissue and Meconium May Not Be Equivalent for Confirming in Utero Substance Exposure.

In a retrospective study of 501 neonates with potential in utero substance exposure, the drug detection performance of a commercially available umbilical cord tissue toxicology test was evaluated against a commercially available gold standard meconium toxicology test. Drugs detected in paired meconium and umbilical cord tissue samples were often discordant.
