Background: Long-term use of levodopa, a metabolic precursor of dopamine (DA) for alleviation of motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD), can cause a serious side effect known as levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). With the development of LID, high-frequency gamma oscillations (~100 Hz) are registered in the motor cortex (MCx) in patients with PD and rats with experimental PD. Studying alterations in the activity within major components of motor networks during transition from levodopa-off state to dyskinesia can provide useful information about their contribution to the development of abnormal gamma oscillations and LID.

Introduction: Evidence shows the inconsistencies in perceived harm of e-cigarettes between direct (single question) and indirect (assessing perceived harm separately by a single question and subtracting their score) measures. While the validity of both measures was tested by assessing their association with criterion variables (i.e.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted purchasing behaviors and tobacco product use among different groups, including exclusive smokers, dual users, and exclusive e-cigarette users.
  • A quantitative survey with 1,460 participants and ten online focus groups involving 61 adults revealed that dual users were more likely to alter their purchasing habits, such as opting for cheaper brands or buying online.
  • The results suggest that targeted public health interventions for dual users could help promote reduced-risk product use or cessation, especially during challenging times like the pandemic.

Tissue specificity can render mitochondrial uncouplers more promising as leading compounds for creating drugs against serious diseases. In search of tissue-specific uncouplers, we address anilinothiophenes as possible glutathione-S-transferase substrates (GST). Earlier, 'cyclic' uncoupling activity was reported for 5-bromo-N-(4-chlorophenyl)-3,4-dinitro-2-thiophenamine (BDCT) in isolated rat liver mitochondria (RLM).

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare endocrine malignancy with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Bulk genomic characterization of ACC has not yielded obvious therapeutic or immunotherapeutic targets, yet novel therapies are needed. We hypothesized that elucidating the intratumoral cellular heterogeneity by single nuclei RNA sequencing analyses would yield insights into potential therapeutic vulnerabilities of this disease.
