As empirical evidence about the efficacy and therapeutic benefits of integrative medicine grows and insurance coverage of services increases, patient demand for integrative medicine is likely to increase. Relatively few studies have looked at electronic health records (EHRs) data to understand utilization of integrative medicine services within "real-world" practice settings. This study's objective is to describe sociodemographic data and health care utilization for adults (age 18 or older) within a large regional health system from 2011 to 2022.

Lecanemab and donanemab are monoclonal antibody therapies that remove amyloid-beta from the brain. They are the first therapies that alter a fundamental mechanism, amyloid-beta deposition, in Alzheimer disease (AD). To inform Canadian decisions on approval and use of these drugs, the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging commissioned Work Groups to review evidence on the efficacy and safety of these new therapies, as well as their projected impacts on Canadian dementia systems of care.

Introduction: COVID-19 vaccinations reduce the severity and number of symptoms for acute SARS-CoV-2 infections and may reduce the risk of developing Long COVID, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC). Limited and heterogenous data exist on how these vaccinations received after COVID-19 infection might impact the symptoms and trajectory of PASC, once persistent symptoms have developed.

Methods: We investigated the association of post-COVID-19 vaccination with any SARS-CoV-2 vaccine(s) on PASC symptoms in two independent cohorts: a retrospective chart review of self-reported data from patients ( = 128) with PASC seen in the Stanford PASC Clinic between May 2021 and May 2022 and a 2023 multinational survey assessment of individuals with PASC ( = 484).

The Mitochondrial Unfolded Protein Response (UPR), a mitochondria-originated stress response to altered mitochondrial proteostasis, plays important roles in various pathophysiological processes. In this study, we revealed that the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-tethered stress sensor CREBH regulates UPR to maintain mitochondrial homeostasis and function in the liver. CREBH is enriched in and required for hepatic Mitochondria-Associated Membrane (MAM) expansion induced by energy demands.

Mitochondria are essential to cellular function as they generate the majority of cellular ATP, mediated through oxidative phosphorylation, which couples proton pumping of the electron transport chain (ETC) to ATP production. The ETC generates an electrochemical gradient, known as the proton motive force, consisting of the mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ, the major component in mammals) and ΔpH across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Both ATP production and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are linked to ΔΨ, and it has been shown that an imbalance in ΔΨ beyond the physiological optimal intermediate range results in excessive ROS production.
