The total activity of NO-synthase and content of stable metabolitic products of nitric oxide in the peripheral blood of rats under low doses of ionizing radiation and administration of natural polyphenol complex of grape was investigated. It was found that natural polyphenol compounds of grapes have the ability to correct radioinduced changes in L-arginine/NO system. It was noted that the action of X-radiation increased activity of NO-synthase in the peripheral blood of rats.

The long-term influence of low X-ray irradiation increases lipid peroxidation (LP) in radiosensitive (bone marrow, enterocytes of small intenstine) and in relatively radioresistant blood cells (erythrocytes). The activation of antioxidant system enzymes in observed cells does not decrease LP intensity. We concluded that additional administration of alpha-tocopherol provided the decrease of the first and end products of LP in the observed tissues mostly in the beginning of the experiment.

It has been shown that chronic X-ray irradiation, (CRI), activates the formation of NO in rats. This is apparent in the increase in the level of NO2- in the blood plasma from 12.59 +/- 1.

The structural and functional state of blood erythrocytes in people exposed to radiation during Chernobyl NPP accident was studied two or six years later. The changes in oxygen transport system of erythrocytes and in the ratio between some organic phosphate fractions were observed. The beta-carotene per os administration to rats during low-level irradiation increased hemolytic stability and activity of glycolytic enzymes, that bears witness to the increasing of organism adaptive reactions at provitamin administration during irradiation.
