Pubertal timing and callous-unemotional traits in girls: Associations across two samples from the UK and Cyprus.

Introduction: Girls remain an understudied group when examining delinquency. Callous-unemotional traits are chief among personality traits that relate to delinquency. Some suggest, however, that girls who evince callous-unemotional traits delay their delinquent behavior until adolescence.

Objective: To learn if a quality of care Medicaid child psychiatric consultation service implemented in three different steps was linked to changes in statewide child antipsychotic utilization.

Data Sources/study Setting: Washington State child psychiatry consultation program primary data and Medicaid pharmacy division antipsychotic utilization secondary data from July 1, 2006, through December 31, 2013.

Study Design: Observational study in which consult program data were analyzed with a time series analysis of statewide antipsychotic utilization.

Defects in iron absorption and utilization lead to iron deficiency and anemia. While iron transport by transferrin receptor-mediated endocytosis is well understood, it is not completely clear how iron is transported from the endosome to the mitochondria where heme is synthesized. We undertook a positional cloning project to identify the causative mutation for the hemoglobin-deficit (hbd) mouse mutant, which suffers from a microcytic, hypochromic anemia apparently due to defective iron transport in the endocytosis cycle.

Genes playing essential roles in iron homeostasis have yet to be identified. We report the discovery of a strong candidate gene affecting iron homeostasis in two allelic anemia mouse mutants: hea (hereditary erythroblastic anemia) and fsn (flaky skin). To clone this novel gene positionally, we established a large backcross, which generated a critical region of seven genes from which only one gene exhibited a mutation in hea mice.
