Is there a critical rate of torque development?

The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that neuromuscular fatigue influences the rate of torque development (RTD) in a similar manner to isometric torque. Nine men participated in this study and performed 5-min all-out isometric tests for knee extensors (KE) and plantar flexors (PF) muscles, to determine the end-test torque (ET) and the critical rate of torque development (critical RTD). Additionally, participants performed submaximal constant-torque tests to task failure for KE and PF muscles.

Lung transplantation for alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency and Behçet's disease: A case report.

Introduction: Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD) is a genetically determined antiproteinase deficiency that predisposes to early-onset emphysema and liver disease. Lung transplantation (LTx) is the final therapeutic option. Behçet's disease (BD) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by oral and genital ulcers and deep venous thrombosis associated with large-vessel and small-vessel vasculitis and aneurysms.

Human outbreaks of a novel reassortant Oropouche virus in the Brazilian Amazon region.

The Brazilian western Amazon is experiencing its largest laboratory-confirmed Oropouche virus (OROV) outbreak, with more than 6,300 reported cases between 2022 and 2024. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed 382 OROV genomes from human samples collected in Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia and Roraima states, between August 2022 and February 2024, to uncover the origin and genetic evolution of OROV in the current outbreak. Genomic analyses revealed that the upsurge of OROV cases in the Brazilian Amazon coincides with spread of a novel reassortant lineage containing the M segment of viruses detected in the eastern Amazon region (2009-2018) and the L and S segments of viruses detected in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador (2008-2021).

Inducing positive involuntary mental imagery in daily life using personalized photograph stimuli.

Most people experience positive involuntary mental imagery (IMI) frequently in daily life; however, evidence for the importance and effects of positive IMI is largely indirect. The current study adapted a paradigm to experimentally induce positive IMI in participants' daily lives. This could in turn provide a means to directly test positive IMI's effects.
