Article Synopsis
  • - The study assesses how changes in the effective lens position (ELP) affect the rotation of toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) in patients who develop increased astigmatism after surgery.
  • - Researchers examined 61 patients over three months, finding that postoperative astigmatism increased, and significant changes in ELP and IOL rotation occurred during this period.
  • - Positive correlations were identified between changes in ELP and both IOL rotation and postoperative astigmatic changes, indicating that variations in lens position can lead to greater residual astigmatism following toric IOL implantation.

This study strategically incorporates epidermal growth factor (EGF) and keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) within a hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel to enhance corneal wound healing. The controlled release of EGF and KGF from the HA hydrogel is engineered to promote the regeneration of both the epithelial and stromal layers. Specifically, EGF plays a pivotal role in the regeneration of the epithelial layer, while KGF exhibits efficacy in the regeneration of the stromal layer.

Background: An enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) (Tecnis Eyhance ICB00 and Tecnis Eyhance Toric DIU) has been developed to enhance intermediate vision while avoiding the disadvantages of multifocal IOLs. Although many studies have demonstrated the improvement of intermediate visual acuity with enhanced monofocal IOLs, it is not known specifically for which patients these IOLs should be recommended or avoided. In this study, we aim to find out which ocular parameters affect vision performance and photic phenomenon of ICB00 or DIU at different distances.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to analyze the relationship between refractive astigmatism and corneal astigmatism in pseudophakic eyes that have non-toric intraocular lenses.
  • Conducted at Yeouido St. Mary Hospital in Seoul, the study evaluated 95 patients using various measurement techniques to compare different types of astigmatism.
  • The findings indicate that while total corneal astigmatism is a reliable measure of refractive astigmatism, its accuracy is comparable to that of automated keratometry after optimization.

The primary role of meibomian glands (MGs) is to actively synthesize and secret lipids and proteins spread onto the tear film, and the glandular lipids promote tear stability, prevent evaporation, and reduce friction. Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is the leading cause of dry eye disease and one of the most common ophthalmic problems worldwide. MGs are densely innervated and regulated by hormones and growth factors.

Severe corneal wounds can lead to ulceration and scarring if not promptly and adequately treated. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has been investigated for the treatment of corneal wounds due to its remarkable biocompatibility, transparency and mucoadhesive properties. However, linear HA has low retention time on the cornea while many chemical moieties used to crosslink HA can cause toxicity, which limits their clinical ocular applications.
