Background: This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with the implementation of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with acute myocarditis and to develop a predictive model.

Methods And Results: This retrospective study included 841 patients from 7 hospitals in Korea with biopsy-proven or clinically suspected acute myocarditis. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the clinical characteristics of patients who required VA-ECMO and to construct a scoring system to predict the implementation of VA-ECMO.

Risk of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Computed Tomography: A 16 Institutional Retrospective Cohort Study.

Objectives: Concern about contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) may delay the timely administration of contrast media for computed tomography (CT). The precise causative effect of iodinated contrast media on CI-AKI and its relevant risk factors remains an area of ongoing investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the risk of CI-AKI following contrast-enhanced CT and its predisposing risk factors.

Proteogenomic analysis dissects early-onset breast cancer patients with prognostic relevance.

Early-onset breast cancer is known for its aggressive clinical characteristics and high prevalence in East Asian countries, but a comprehensive understanding of its molecular features is still lacking. In this study, we conducted a proteogenomic analysis of 126 treatment-naïve primary tumor tissues obtained from Korean patients with young breast cancer (YBC) aged ≤40 years. By integrating genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data, we identified five distinct functional subgroups that accurately represented the clinical characteristics and biological behaviors of patients with YBC.

Cytomegalovirus tracheobronchitis mimicking lung cancer progression in a patient with lung adenocarcinoma: A case report.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) commonly infects immunocompromised individuals, such as cancer patients. We present a case involving a 60-year-old male with Stage 3A lung adenocarcinoma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) diagnosed with CMV tracheobronchitis, initially suspected as cancer progression. Treatment with ganciclovir led to partial improvement in symptoms of shortness of breath and cough, as well as bronchoscopic findings.

Given the widespread use of whole slide imaging (WSI) for primary pathological diagnosis, we evaluated its utility in assessing histological grade and biomarker expression (ER, PR, HER2, and Ki67) compared to conventional light microscopy (CLM). In addition, we explored the utility of digital image analysis (DIA) for assessing biomarker expression. Three breast pathologists assessed the Nottingham combined histological grade, its components, and biomarker expression through the immunohistochemistry of core needle biopsy samples obtained from 101 patients with breast cancer using CLM, WSI, and DIA.

Conjunctival myxoma: A case report and review of a rare tumor.

Rationale: Conjunctival myxoma is a rare benign tumor, which can mimic more common conjunctival lesions such as a cyst, lymphangioma, amelanotic nevus, neurofibroma, amelanotic melanoma, or lipoma. We describe a patient with the conjunctival myxoma, who was initially misdiagnosed as a conjunctival cyst. Integrated proteogenomic characterization of glioblastoma evolution.

The evolutionary trajectory of glioblastoma (GBM) is a multifaceted biological process that extends beyond genetic alterations alone. Here, we perform an integrative proteogenomic analysis of 123 longitudinal glioblastoma pairs and identify a highly proliferative cellular state at diagnosis and replacement by activation of neuronal transition and synaptogenic pathways in recurrent tumors. Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses reveal that the molecular transition to neuronal state at recurrence is marked by post-translational activation of the wingless-related integration site (WNT)/ planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling pathway and BRAF protein kinase.

Neurofibroma (NF) is a benign tumor in the peripheral nervous system, but it can infiltrate around structures and cause functional impairment and disfigurement. We incidentally found that the expression of CD16a (Fc gamma receptor IIIA) was increased in NFs compared to in non-neoplastic nerves and hypothesized that CD16 could be relevant to NF progression. We evaluated the expressions of CD16a, CD16b, CD68, TREM2, Galectin-3, S-100, and SOX10 in 38 cases of neurogenic tumors (NF, = 18; atypical neurofibromatous neoplasm of uncertain biologic potential (ANNUBP), = 14; and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST), = 6) by immunohistochemical staining.
