Importance: The burden of caring for children with complex medical problems such as major congenital anomalies falls principally on mothers, who in turn suffer a variety of potentially severe economic consequences. As well, health consequences of caregiving often further impact the social and economic prospects of mothers of children with major congenital anomalies (MCMCAs). Evaluating the long-term economic consequences of extensive in-home caregiving among MCMCAs can inform strategies to mitigate these effects.

Based on the ambipolar characteristics and high solubility of ZnI, zinc-polyiodide flow batteries (ZIFB) have attracted attention as high-energy density flow batteries. However, due to the various oxidation products of iodide (I) and the formation of iodine (I) solid precipitates at the positive electrode, the limiting state-of-charge (SoC) of ZIFB has not been clearly defined. Herein, a clear definition of SoC in ZIFBs is given based on the thermodynamic relationship among I, I, I, and I in the electrolyte.

In Korea, the approved anesthetic regimen of remimazolam starts with 6 mg/kg/h or 12 mg/kg/h until loss of consciousness, followed by maintenance at 1-2 mg/kg/h. Some patients receiving remimazolam for general anesthesia experience occasional difficulty maintaining bispectral index (BIS) value ˂ 60. This retrospective study aimed to analyze the data from patients undergoing elective surgery under remimazolam based-general anesthesia to determine the frequency and physical characteristics of patients with BIS values ˂ 60.

The Eleveld propofol pharmacokinetic (PK) model, which was developed based on a broad range of populations, showed greater bias (- 27%) in elderly subjects in a previous validation study conducted by Vellinga and colleagues. We aimed to develop and externally validate a new PK-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) model of propofol for elderly subjects. A population PK-PD model was constructed using propofol plasma concentrations and bispectral index (BIS) values that were obtained from 31 subjects aged 65 years older in previously published phase I studies.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the C-MAC D-blade videolaryngoscope and the McCoy laryngoscope for inserting a double-lumen endotracheal tube in patients.
  • Results showed that while both devices took a similar amount of time for intubation, the C-MAC D-blade provided better visualization of the glottis and resulted in less difficulty for intubation.
  • Overall, the C-MAC D-blade was found to be superior in facilitating the intubation process, but both devices did not differ significantly in terms of malposition, hemodynamic parameters, or postoperative sore throat.
