Inverted Meckel diverticulum as a lead point of small bowel intussusception: misinterpreting case as a lipoma.

Inverted Meckel diverticulum is an uncommon cause of intussusception in adults. It may be confused for an intraluminal lipoma. We present a case of small bowel intussusception due to inverted Meckel diverticulum with characteristic computed tomography finding potentially distinguishable from lipoma.

Ultrasound-aided formation of gold nanoparticles on multi-walled carbon nanotubes functionalized with mercaptobenzene moieties.

A hybrid of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and gold nanoparticle (Au NP) was prepared under ultrasound irradiation. The approach starts with the functionalization of the walls of MWCNTs with mercaptobenzene moieties for the subsequent immobilization of Au NPs. From the Raman spectra, mercaptobenzene was proven to exist on the MWCNTs.

Synthesis of graphene-gold nanocomposites via sonochemical reduction.

A Reduced reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-gold (Au) nanoparticle (NP) nanocomposite was synthesized by simultaneously reducing the Au ions and depositing Au NPs on onto the surface surface of the RGOsRGO simultaneously. To facilitate the reduction of Au ions and the generation of oxygen functionalities for anchoring the Au NPs on the RGOsRGO, ultrasound irradiation was applied to the mixture of reactants. The functional groups were investigated with FT-IR spectra.

Efficacy of korean red ginseng in the treatment of atopic dermatitis.

In order to determine the efficacy of functional foods, objective measurement of the severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) after taking foods is important. The aim of this study was to conduct an objective evaluation of whether Korean red ginseng (KRG) might be helpful for improvement of skin condition and serum IgE in patients with AD. Thirty atopic patients (18 females and 12 males) participated in this study.

Barbed suture suspension technique for prevention of lower eyelid ectropion after Mohs micrographic surgery.

Mohs micrographic surgery of the lower eyelid poses a risk of ectropion. Even though the lower eyelid is a very frequent location for basal cell carcinoma, prevention techniques for ectropion after Mohs micrographic surgery have rarely been introduced. After Mohs micrographic surgery of the lower eyelid, the authors applied a barbed suture suspension technique for the prevention of lower eyelid ectropion.

Cigarette smoke-induced Egr-1 represses T beta R-II expression in human skin dermal fibroblasts.

Tobacco smoking is one of the many factors that contribute to premature skin aging, but the exact mechanism by which smoking induces facial wrinkling is still poorly understood. To investigate the regulatory potential of early growth response-1 (Egr-1) on the premature skin aging by smoking, this study examined the hypothesis that cigarette smoke-induced Egr-1 represses T beta R-II expression in human skin dermal fibroblasts (HSDFs). The protein and mRNA expressions of Egr-1 and T beta R-II were detected using Western blot and real-time RTPCR in HSDFs after exposure to cigarette smoke extract (CSE).

Molecular characterization and genogrouping of VP1 of aquatic birnavirus GC1 isolated from rockfish Sebastes schlegeli in Korea.

The cDNA nucleotide sequence of genome segment B encoding the VP1 protein was determined for the aquatic birnavirus GC1 isolated from the rockfish Sebastes schlegeli in Korea. The VP1 protein of GC1 contains a 2,538 bp open reading frame, which encodes a protein comprising 846 amino acid residues that has a predicted MW of 94 kDa. The sequence contains 6 potential Asn-X-Ser/Thr motifs.
