Introduction: The clinical benefit of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in the treatment of malignant glioma remains controversial. We analyzed failure patterns of malignant gliomas following SRS to identify the clinical implications of SRS against these malignancies.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 58 consecutive patients who received SRS with a gamma knife for their malignant glioma from January 2013 to December 2018.

Efficacy of intraoperative wireless ultrasonography for uterine incision among patients with adherence findings in placenta previa.

Aim: We evaluated the effectiveness of intraoperative wireless ultrasonography in determining the location of uterine incision during cesarean delivery in patients with placenta previa who have sonographic adherence findings in order to assess intraoperative blood loss and maternal morbidity.

Methods: A prospective study using wireless sonography, including 15 patients with previa, was conducted among women with singleton pregnancies who delivered by cesarean section between August 1, 2017, and August 30, 2019. Retrospective study for the control group included 32 patients with placenta previa who underwent cesarean section between January 1, 2016, and July 31, 2017, without wireless sonography.

Prospective Comparative Analysis of the Incidence of Vasovagal Reaction and the Effect of Rectal Submucosal Lidocaine Injection in Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the incidence of vasovagal reactions (VVRs) and the efficacy of lidocaine injection for prevention.

Methods: One hundred seventeen patients diagnosed with hemorrhoids and scheduled to undergo a stapled hemorrhoidopexy (SH) were randomly divided according to submucosal injection to the rectum: lidocaine group (n = 53, lidocaine injected just before full closure of the stapler) and control group (n = 58). Outcomes included baseline patient characteristics (American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification, body mass index, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and previous VVR history), vital signs during the operation, incidence of VVRs (hypotension, bradycardia, dizziness, diaphoresis, and nausea/vomiting), and postoperative complications (pain, bleeding, and urinary retention).

Most patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are diagnosed at an advanced stage of disease. Until recently, systemic treatment options that showed survival benefits in HCC have been limited to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, antibodies targeting oncogenic signaling pathways or VEGF receptors. The HCC tumor microenvironment is characterized by a dysfunction of the immune system through multiple mechanisms, including accumulation of various immunosuppressive factors, recruitment of regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells, and induction of T cell exhaustion accompanied with the interaction between immune checkpoint ligands and receptors.

High-temperature durability is critical for application of organic materials in electronic devices that operate in harsh environments. In this work, thermostable physically cross-linked polymer electrolytes, or thermostable physical ion gels, were successfully developed using crystallization-induced phase separation of semicrystalline polyamides (PAs) in an ionic liquid (IL). In these ion gels, phase-separated PA crystals act as network junctions and enable the ion gels to maintain their mechanical integrity up to 180 °C.

Tumor retractor: a simple and novel instrument for brain tumor surgery.

Background: It is important to secure a surgical space during brain tumor surgery. One of the commonly used methods is to retract the brain. What Is Known And Objective: Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling is a minimally invasive method of blood sampling that enables monitoring of drug concentrations to be more convenient. This study aimed at developing a DBS sampling method for an accurate and precise prediction of radotinib plasma concentrations (C ) in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML).

Methods: Dried blood spot and venous blood samples were simultaneously collected from fifty CML patients who had been receiving radotinib for at least a week.

Differential Activation of Macrophages Based on Their Environment in Advanced Age.

The macrophage displays functional and phenotypic diversity, which appears, in no small part, to stem from the ability of macrophages to adapt functionally to changes in their tissue microenvironment. Here, we describe the differential activity of peritoneal macrophages with or without the presence of thioglycollate (TG), an inflammatory drug that encouraged the recruitment of macrophages, during aging. The peritoneal-resident macrophages dramatically reduced in phagocytosis and pro-inflammatory cytokines secretion with aging, whereas the functions of macrophages recruited by TG were not significantly changed with aging.

Assessment of a green roof practice using the coupled SWMM and HYDRUS models.

Green roof can mitigate urban stormwater and improve environmental, economic, and social conditions. Various modeling approaches have been effectively employed to implement a green roof, but previous models employed simplifications to simulate water movement in green roof systems. To address this issue, we developed a new modeling tool (SWMM-H) by coupling the stormwater management and HYDRUS-1D models to improve simulations of hydrological processes.
