Polyamine biosynthesis regulated by StARD expression plays an important role in potato wound periderm formation.

An acireductone dioxygenase (ARD) gene of potatoes was isolated from the expressed sequence tags (ESTs) of potato post-suberization cDNA libraries. The highest expression levels of the StARD gene and the protein appeared 36 h after suberization. An approximate 9-fold increase in ARD activity was detected at 36 h after wounding.

Cloning and expression of Klebsiella phage K11 lysozyme gene.

Previously, the lysozyme gene of the Klebsiella phage K11 was partially sequenced in our lab. Using the sequence information the lysozyme gene of the Klebsiella phage K11 was amplified and cloned using the polymerase chain reaction of the pfu DNA polymerase. The nucleotide sequence of phage K11 lysozyme gene was determined.

Light-dependent expression of superoxide dismutase from cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803.

The oxygenic phototrophic cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803 inevitably evolves superoxide during photosynthesis. Synechocystis 6803 contains only one type of superoxide dismutase, designated as SodB; therefore, this protein plays an important role in preventing oxidative damages caused by light.

Light-induced dephosphorylation of a 65-kDa protein in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC6803.

We found that a 65-kDa protein (p65) of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 is dephosphorylated in a light-dependent manner. In darkness, p65 was specifically phosphorylated and then completely dephosphorylated within 2 min upon exposure to high-intensity light.
