Unlabelled: Contact with environmental microbial communities primes the human immune system. Factors determining the distribution of microorganisms, such as dispersal, are thus important for human health. Here, we used the relative number of bacteria shared between environmental and human samples as a measure of bacterial dispersal and studied these associations with living environment and lifestyles.

Here we report a paired randomized intervention-control trial in which we evaluated the effect of microbially rich soil on immune resilience and pneumococcal vaccine response. Twenty-five age and sex matched pairs of volunteers were randomized to intervention and control groups.

Around the world, influenza A virus has caused severe pandemics, and the risk of future pandemics remains high. Currently, influenza A virus surveillance is based on the clinical diagnosis and reporting of disease cases. In this study, we apply wastewater-based surveillance to monitor the amount of the influenza A virus RNA at the population level.

Objective: This systematic review aimed to identify and describe the educational interventions that have been developed to improve various aspects of the digital competence of healthcare professionals and the effects of these interventions.
Wastewater comprises multiple pathogens and offers a potential for wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) to track the prevalence of communicable diseases. The Finnish WastPan project aimed to establish wastewater-based pandemic preparedness for multiple pathogens (viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi), including antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This article outlines WastPan's experiences in this project, including the criteria for target selection, sampling locations, frequency, analysis methods, and results communication.

Background: Modifiable lifestyle risk behaviours contribute to an increased prevalence of chronic diseases worldwide. Lifestyle counselling is part of nurses' role which enables them to make a significant contribution to patients' long-term health in various healthcare contexts, but requires particular competence.
Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a critical threat to human health. Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are clinically the most important species associated with AMR and are the most common carbapenemase-producing (CP) Enterobacterales detected in human specimens in Finland. Wastewater surveillance has emerged as a potential approach for population-level surveillance of AMR, as wastewater could offer a reflection from a larger population with one sample and minimal recognized ethical issues.

We present FLAMS (Find Lysine Acylations and other Modification Sites), a Python3-based command line and web-tool that enables researchers to compare their PTM sites to the contents of the CPLM, the largest dedicated protein lysine modification database, and dbPTM, the most comprehensive general PTM database, at the residue level. FLAMS can be integrated into PTM analysis pipelines, allowing researchers to quickly assess the novelty and conservation of PTM sites across species in newly generated datasets, aiding in the functional assessment of sites and the prioritization of sites for further experimental characterization.

RRPA is a rapid way to analyze data from a large number of vehicle chases automatically. The particle number emission factors were determined for four ranges of particle diameters (>1.

They regularly infect humans and cause symptoms ranging from the common cold and hand-foot-and-mouth disease to life-threatening conditions, such as dilated cardiomyopathy and poliomyelitis. Enteroviruses have also been associated with chronic immune-mediated diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, and asthma.

Understanding the links between psychological factors and eating behavior tendencies is needed to develop more effective weight management methods. This population-based cross-sectional study examined whether eating self-efficacy (ESE) is associated with cognitive restraint (CR), uncontrolled eating (UE), emotional eating (EE), and binge eating (BE).

Aim: Health care professionals are tasked with the role of supporting patients in using eHealth services in their personal care and counselling competence in digital environments to ensure appropriate patient care. Our aim was to describe health care professionals' experiences of counselling competence in Digital Care Pathways.
Design: A descriptive qualitative study.
The metagenomic data presented in this article are related to the published research of "A Placebo-controlled double-blinded test of the biodiversity hypothesis of immune-mediated diseases: Environmental microbial diversity elicits changes in cytokines and increase in T regulatory cells in young children" This database contains 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) metagenomics of sandbox sand and skin and gut microbiota of children in the intervention and placebo daycares. In intervention daycares, children aged 3-5 years were exposed to playground sand enriched with microbially diverse soil. In placebo daycares, children were exposed to visually similar as in intervention daycares, but microbially poor sand colored with peat.

Recent research aimed to define this complex phenomenon and identify the current state of healthcare professionals' competence in digitalisation but did not include an overarching outlook when measuring digital health competence of healthcare professionals.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop and psychometrically validate two self-assessed instruments measuring digital health competence and factors associating with it.
Purpose: To review and synthesize the available evidence on the effectiveness of preparatory digital counseling for children undergoing diagnostic imaging and their parents in terms of patient-related and imaging outcomes.
Methods: Relevant studies were identified by searching databases and gray literature resources. References from full-text articles identified in the initial search were searched manually to identify additional relevant studies.
The perinatal period represents a critical window for cognitive and immune system development, promoted by maternal and infant gut microbiomes and their metabolites. Here, we tracked the co-development of microbiomes and metabolomes from late pregnancy to 1 year of age using longitudinal multi-omics data from a cohort of 70 mother-infant dyads. We discovered large-scale mother-to-infant interspecies transfer of mobile genetic elements, frequently involving genes associated with diet-related adaptations.

Methods: Altogether 576 newborn infants from Trial to Reduce IDDM in the Genetically at Risk (TRIGR) born between 2002 and 2007 were included.
Introduction: Finnish companies are legally required to insure their employees against occupational accidents. Insurance companies are then required to submit information about occupational accidents to the Finnish Workers' Compensation Center (TVK), which then publishes occupational accident statistics in Finland together with Statistics Finland. Our objective is to detect silent signals, by which we mean patterns in the data such as increased occupational accident frequencies for which there is initially only weak evidence, making their detection challenging.

Despite years of intense research, the hypothesis was never tested in a double-blinded and placebo-controlled intervention trial.
Objective: We aimed to perform the first placebo-controlled double-blinded test that investigates the effect of biodiversity on immune tolerance.
Background And Aims: Multimorbidity is a major public health and healthcare challenge around the world, including in Finland. As multimorbidity necessitates self-management in everyday life, the effects of patient activation - a patient's knowledge, skills, and confidence in managing own health - on the capacity for self-management warrant study, especially in primary healthcare settings. This study aimed to assess patient activation among multimorbid primary healthcare patients, identify factors associated with patient activation, and determine whether patients with low and high activation differ in terms of health and self-management behavior, related perceptions, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
