Objective: To determine the baseline and cumulative risks of cervical intraepithelial lesion grade 3 (CIN3) and invasive cervical cancer in patients with <CIN2 colposcopy findings after a low-grade screening cytology finding (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance or low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion [LSIL]).

Methods: By linking administrative databases, including cytology, pathology, cancer registries, and physician billing history, a population-based cohort study was performed on participants with <CIN2 initial colposcopy results after a low-grade antecedent cytology finding, between January 2012 and December 2013. Three and 5-year risks of CIN3 and invasive cervical cancer were generated using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are promising candidates for cell-based therapy to treat several diseases and are compelling to consider as vehicles for delivery of biological agents. However, MSCs appear to act through a seemingly limited "hit-and-run" mode to quickly exert their therapeutic impact, mediated by several mechanisms, including a potent immunomodulatory secretome. Furthermore, MSC immunomodulatory properties are highly variable and the secretome composition following infusion is uncertain.

Cell-surface sensors are powerful tools to elucidate cell functions including cell signaling, metabolism, and cell-to-cell communication. These sensors not only facilitate our understanding in basic biology but also advance the development of effective therapeutics and diagnostics. While genetically encoded fluorescent protein/peptide sensors have been most popular, emerging cell surface sensor systems including polymer-, nanoparticle-, and nucleic acid aptamer-based sensors have largely expanded our toolkits to interrogate complex cellular signaling and micro- or nano-environments.

Fatigue loading causes a spatial distribution of osteocyte apoptosis co-localized with bone resorption spaces peaking around microdamage sites. Since osteocytes have been shown to regulate osteoclast formation and activity, we hypothesize that osteocyte apoptosis regulates osteoclastogenesis. In this study, we used serum-starvation to mimic reduced nutrient transport in microdamaged bone and induce apoptosis in MLO-Y4 osteocyte-like cells; conditioned medium was used to apply soluble factors released by apoptotic osteocytes (aOCY) to healthy non-apoptotic MLO-Y4 cells.
