Background: Quantitative stress cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) can be performed using the dual-sequence (DS) technique or dual-bolus (DB) method. The number of conditions being screened globally is expanding rapidly in parallel with advances in technology, diagnosis, and treatment availability for these conditions. In Hong Kong, NBS for inborn errors of metabolism (NBSIEM) began as a pilot program in October 2015 and was implemented to all birthing hospitals within the public healthcare system in phases, with completion in October 2020.

Objectives: Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are growing health concerns. Since 2005, Student Health Service (SHS) and Hong Kong Paediatric Society formulated a protocol on urine glucose screening (UGS) for early diagnosis of T2DM in students with obesity in Hong Kong. This study reviews students with T2DM captured by this screening program and compare the data with the Hong Kong Children Diabetes Registry (HKCDR) database, to see if the UGS program facilitates early diagnosis of T2DM.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Little is known about the impact of the provision of handheld point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) devices on physical examination skills of medical students.
Methods: We describe an educational initiative that comprised a POCUS workshop followed by allocation of a POCUS device to medical students for use over the subsequent 8 weeks. They were encouraged to scan patients and correlate their physical examination findings.
Termination of peripheral veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support by managing the arteriotomy wound using a percutaneous closure device was reported successful and effective. However, careful assessment by clinical examination and also ultrasound Doppler assessment of the lower limb vasculature after closure is of paramount importance. Complications including pseudoaneurysm, arterial stenosis, and acute thrombosis are not uncommon.

The combination of these methods allows probing the dynamics of vacancy generation and its relation to chemical interactions at the CeO/SiO/Si interface.

We reviewed the angiographic and clinical outcomes of intracranial aneurysms following RT in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a malignancy endemic in Hong Kong.
Materials And Methods: The clinical, angiographic and laboratory data was collected for nine NPC patients harboring fifteen intracranial aneurysms following RT, diagnosed between 1st January 2000 and 31st December 2012.
Objective: To establish the most effective approach and type of educational intervention for health professional students, to enable them to maintain a professionally safe online presence.
Method: This was a qualitative, multinational, multi-institutional, multiprofessional study. Practical considerations (availability of participants) led us to use a combination of focus groups and individual interviews, strengthening our findings by triangulating our method of data collection.
The global population is ageing and consequently cognitive problems are increasingly prevalent. To ensure that the healthcare needs of this complex group are met, healthcare professionals must receive adequate training in this field. There are, however, a variety of reasons why this is not currently being achieved, including, but not limited to: ethical and logistical issues relating to the delivery of educational experiences involving cognitively impaired patients; a failure of curricula to keep pace with the changing demographic; societal and institutional ageism; and the inherent complexity of the conditions.

Although early treatment with chemo-radiotherapy can be curative and significantly improve the quality of life, medical attention is often delayed. A young Chinese male experienced a 6-month history of right hemiparesis with magnetic resonance imaging findings of hemicerebral atrophy and lentiform nucleus microhemorrhage, highly suggestive and early signs of basal ganglia germinomas.

Nellix Endovascular Aneurysm Sealing (EVAS) system is a new concept and technology of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. Elective EVAS using Nellix device was performed for a 83-year-old man with AAA. 2-month post-EVAS CTA surveillance demonstrated mild enlargement of aneurysmal sac and separation of the EndoBags, but without detectable endoleak.

However, no clinical data are available to answer whether a high-dose regimen is more effective than a normal-dose regimen, even though the biochemical actions and related neuroprotective mechanisms are thought to be dose related.
Objective: To determine whether 80 mg simvastatin daily (high dose) over 3 weeks initiated within 96 hours of the ictus will reduce the incidence of delayed ischemic deficits after subarachnoid hemorrhage compared with 40 mg simvastatin daily (normal dose), leading to improvements in clinical outcomes and thus cost-effectiveness.

The highly conserved secondary structural RNA motifs endowed by the IRES element of EMCV picornavirus provide an excellent platform to design RNA nanostructures for application in medicine. We have identified a 44mer RNA, hosting distinct 15mer and 11mer RNA stem loop motifs, as potential building blocks for the design of RNA nanostructures.
