Nanoporous metals have unique potentials for energy applications with a high surface area despite the percolating structure. Yet, a highly corrosive environment is required for the synthesis of porous metals with conventional dealloying methods, limiting the large-scale fabrication of porous structures for reactive metals. In this study, we synthesize a highly reactive Mg nanoporous system through a facile organic solution-based approach without any harsh etching.

Article Synopsis
  • The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) provides estimates for prevalence of idiopathic and secondary epilepsy but lacks detailed prevalence by the specific underlying causes of secondary epilepsy.
  • Using demographic data from Denmark, researchers identified causes of epilepsy to compare local prevalence rates with GBD 2019 data, analyzing hospital diagnoses and prescription records from 2009 to 2018.
  • Results showed that Denmark has a total epilepsy prevalence of 697 per 100,000, with significant underlying causes for secondary epilepsy including perinatal conditions, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, and stroke, suggesting a need for future studies to address all forms of epilepsy more comprehensively.

Electrically induced amorphization is uncommon and has so far been realized by pulsed electrical current in only a few material systems, which are mostly based on the melt-quench process. However, if the melting step can be avoided and solid-state amorphization can be realized electrically, it opens up the possibility for low-power device applications. Here we report an energy-efficient, unconventional long-range solid-state amorphization in a new ferroic β″-phase of indium selenide nanowires through the application of a direct-current bias rather than a pulsed electrical stimulus.
