We investigated if this also pertains to insulin-induced effects on fatty acid handling. Forty-three women with obesity (OB) were investigated before and 2 years after Roux-en-Y gastric by-pass when BMI was <30 kg/m (PO) and compared with 26 never obese women (NO).

Background: Although several epidemiological studies have suggested mercury (Hg) might be associated with cardiotoxicity, the impact of Hg exposure on cardiac autonomic activity and blood pressure in children has not been investigated at Hg exposure levels equivalent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reference dose.

Objective: To investigate the association between low dose prenatal and recent methylmercury (MeHg) exposures and cardiac autonomic function and blood pressure with adjustment for factors such as fish consumption among children from a high fish consumption coastal city.

Methods: Children aged 7-8 years were recruited from the birth cohort of our previous study.

A fiducial cross section for Wγ production in proton-proton collisions is measured at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 137  fb^{-1} of data collected using the CMS detector at the LHC. The W→eν and μν decay modes are used in a maximum-likelihood fit to the lepton-photon invariant mass distribution to extract the combined cross section. The measured cross section is compared with theoretical expectations at next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics.

Observation of a New Excited Beauty Strange Baryon Decaying to Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-}.

The Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass spectrum is investigated with an event sample of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1}. The ground state Ξ_{b}^{-} is reconstructed via its decays to J/ψΞ^{-} and J/ψΛK^{-}. A narrow resonance, labeled Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-}, is observed at a Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass of 6100.

This article investigates the nonnegative consensus tracking problem for networked systems with a distributed static output-feedback (SOF) control protocol. The distributed SOF controller design for networked systems presents a more challenging issue compared with the distributed state-feedback controller design. The agents are described by multi-input multi-output (MIMO) positive dynamic systems which may contain uncertain parameters, and the interconnection among the followers is modeled using an undirected connected communication graph.

Background: Many patients experience bilateral knee osteoarthritis and require bilateral total knee replacement (TKR). Same-stage, bilateral TKR is proposed to be a cost-effective and safe solution compared to two-stage, but conflicting results in the literature are reported. We aim to compare the costs, safety, and rehabilitation performance of patients in same-stage versus two-stage, bilateral TKR with our centre's perioperative protocol.

The importance of air quality for underground spaces: An international survey of public attitudes.

Space is a resource that is constantly being depleted, especially in mega-cities. Underground workspaces (UGS) are increasingly being included in urban plans and have emerged as an essential component of vertical cities. While progress had been made on the engineering aspects associated with the development of high-quality UGS, public attitudes toward UGS as work environments (ie, the public's design concerns with UGS) are relatively unknown.

Recognition of Depression and Help-Seeking Preference Among University Students in Singapore: An Evaluation of the Impact of Advancing Research to Eliminate Mental Illness Stigma an Education and Contact Intervention.

The SMHS 2016 revealed that young adults in Singapore had the highest 12-month prevalence of mental disorders, with depression being the most prevalent condition. Additionally, the study found that those with higher education were less likely to seek treatment. The recognition of mental illness and knowledge of where to seek help has been found to influence one's ability to seek timely psychological help.

CD226 interacts with its ligand Necl5 as a costimulatory signal. In this study, we cloned a CD226 from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus, named OnCD226) and a Necl5 (named OnNecl5). The open reading frame of OnCD226 was 1071 bp, encoding a protein of 356 amino acids.

Purpose: To compare physicians' ability to read Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) in patients with a large vessel occlusion within 6 hours of symptom onset when assisted by a machine learning-based automatic software tool, compared with their unassisted score.

Materials And Methods: 50 baseline CT scans selected from two prior studies (CRISP and GAMES-RP) were read by 3 experienced neuroradiologists who were provided access to a follow-up MRI. The average ASPECT score of these reads was used as the reference standard.

Preliminary development of a bystander intervention scale for depression and the examination of socio-demographic correlates amongst Singapore university students.

Background: Despite peer involvement having a positive impact on help-seeking behavior, there is a lack of a scale quantifying the possibility of an individual intervening upon noticing peers who show signs of depression. The aims of this study were to (1) develop a bystander intervention scale for depression that assesses the likelihood of university students intervening when a peer shows signs of depression based on the theory of bystander intervention, (2) identify the underlying factors contributing to the behavior, and (3) explore the socio-demographic correlates of the scale.

Methods: The proposed scale, the Bystander Intervention Scale for Depression (BISD), is a 17-item self-reported questionnaire that was developed based on existing bystander intervention theory and inputs from mental health experts.

Spatial deviations of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) after oncological mandibular reconstruction are important to the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to clarify whether and how three dimensionally (3D) printed patient-specific surgical plates, and the preservation of the condyle or ramus, affect spatial deviations of the TMJ. A total of 33 patients who underwent mandibular reconstruction via computer-assisted surgery were included.

Human White Adipose Tissue Displays Selective Insulin Resistance in the Obese State.

Selective hepatic insulin resistance is a feature of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Whether similar mechanisms operate in white adipose tissue (WAT) of those with obesity and to what extent these are normalized by weight loss are unknown. We determined insulin sensitivity by hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp and insulin response in subcutaneous WAT by RNA sequencing in 23 women with obesity before and 2 years after bariatric surgery.
