Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the performance of PBIA (UIMD, Seoul, Republic of Korea), an automated digital morphology analyzer using deep learning, for white blood cell (WBC) classification in peripheral blood smears and compare it with the widely used DI-60 (Sysmex, Kobe, Japan).

Methods: A total of 461 slides were analyzed using PBIA and DI-60. For each instrument, pre-classification performance was evaluated on the basis of post-classification results verified by users.

Despite increased awareness and public health initiatives, the incidence of microbial infections related to tattoos has increased since 2000. Building on the first paper in this two-part Series, which detailed the microbiological aspects of tattoo-related infections over the past two centuries from 1820 to 2023, this second paper describes the patterns, causes, and other related epidemiological factors of these infections. Since 2000, bacterial outbreaks, particularly those caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria, have increased, prompting a re-evaluation of tattoos as a serious public health risk.

The LabGenius C-CT/NG-BMX assay (LabGenius CT/NG; BIOMEDUX, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea) is a recently developed real-time PCR assay that can simultaneously detect the sexually transmitted pathogens (CT) and (NG) in genitourinary specimens. We evaluated the analytical performance of this assay in comparison with BD MAX CT/GC/TV (Becton Dickinson, Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA). The results of both assays were in nearly perfect agreement for the detection of CT and NG.

We evaluated the diagnostic performance of newly developed microfluidic microplate-based fluorescent ELISA for anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody detection: the Veri-Q opti COVID-19 IgG and IgM ELISAs (hereafter, "Opti IgG/M"; MiCo BioMed, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea), in comparison with conventional ELISAs. Unlabelled: Tattooing and use of permanent makeup (PMU) have dramatically increased over the last decade, with a concomitant increase in ink-related infections. Studies have shown evidence that commercial tattoo and PMU inks are frequently contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms. Background: Before the omicron era, health care workers were usually vaccinated with either the primary 2-dose ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (Oxford-AstraZeneca) series plus a booster dose of BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) (CCB group) or the primary 2-dose BNT162b2 series plus a booster dose of BNT162b2 (BBB group) in Korea.

Methods: The two groups were compared using quantification of the surrogate virus neutralization test for wild type severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SVNT-WT), the omicron variant (SVNT-O), spike-specific IgG, and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), as well as the omicron breakthrough infection cases.
