Introduction: Ultrasound-guided fine- needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) remains the primary method for diagnosing thyroid nodules, providing adequate information for definitive diagnosis and treatment decisions in most cases. However, cytological examinations sometimes yield inconclusive or non-diagnostic results. For rapidly growing tumours with suspected malignancy, a swift and accurate diagnosis is crucial to initiate timely treatment.

The Ski2-like proteins are primordial helicases that play an active role in eukaryotic RNA homeostasis pathways, with multiple homologs having specialized functions. The significance of the expansion and diversity of Ski2-like proteins in Archaea, the third domain of life, has not yet been established.

The article is a critical review of 68 recent publications on the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on transplantology worldwide. The study discusses research results concerning various aspects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in transplant patients; it also lists important factors influencing vaccination effectiveness.

Using national, longitudinal data from the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, we analyzed the experiences of 20,910 students who indicated an initial intent to major in a STEM field and found that TGNC students ( = 117) continue in STEM majors at a rate ∼10% lower than their cisgender peers. This gap persists despite TGNC students' high levels of academic ability and academic self-confidence.

According to data reported to POLTRANSPLANT, the number of solid organ transplants decreased by over 35% and the number of patients enlisted de novo for organ transplantation was reduced to 70% of its pre-COVID-19 volume in Poland. Most transplant centers in Western Europe and the USA have also drastically reduced their activity when compared to the pre-pandemic era.

Such pervasive transcription is a key player in the regulatory pathways controlling chromatin state and gene expression. Here, we describe long non-coding RNAs generated from the ribosomal RNA gene promoter called UPStream-initiating transcripts (UPS).

Plasma fibrinogen levels play an essential role in hemostasis and deplete quickly during hemorrhage. The objective of this study was to determine whether prophylactic fibrinogen concentrate administration lowers overall blood product transfusion requirements in high-risk cardiac surgery in patients with low fibrinogen plasma levels.

According to our current understanding, the latter play the key role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Similarly, infections (mainly viral) are implicated in the pathogenesis of at least 20% of known neoplasms.

In budding yeast, Pol I is a multimeric enzyme with 14 subunits. Among them, Rpa49 forms with Rpa34 a Pol I-specific heterodimer (homologous to PAF53/CAST heterodimer in human Pol I), which might be responsible for the specific functions of the Pol I.

Methods: We analyzed 406 patients who received a kidney graft from 2013 to 2015 in a single center. The analysis resulted in 33 pairs of patients: for one recipient in the pair it was the first transplantation and for the other it was the second or a subsequent one.
Introduction: Because nearly 30,000 people worldwide become living kidney donors each year, donor safety is of the utmost importance. Recent studies have shown that living kidney donation is associated with an increased relative risk for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). It is essential to determine which donors will be more likely to develop ESRD.

The Kidney Donor Risk Index (KDRI) allows for obtaining a more precise characteristic of ECDs and further stratification into "better" and "worse" quality grafts.
Methods: Comparison of the incidence of delayed graft function (DGF) and biopsy-proven acute rejection (BPAR), median of hospitalization time and median of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at 1 year after transplantation among kidney graft recipients (n = 468), divided by donor status (ECD/standard-criteria donor [SCD]) and KDRI value (I: 0.

Background: Multiple renal artery kidneys still represent a special challenge for surgeons, during both nephrectomy for organ donation and transplantation. Recognition of anatomical conditions with advanced imaging methods is one of the most important elements of the preoperative evaluation process.
Aim: The purpose of the current study was to assess if anatomical abnormalities affect the outcomes of living kidney donor transplantation procedures.
Background: Living kidney transplantation is the optimal treatment of end-stage renal disease. The benefits for recipients are obvious. The psychological consequences for living kidney donors in Poland are not known.

Background: Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is involved in the pathogenesis of hypertension and the development of hypertensive target organ damage. TGF-β may promote blood pressure elevation through several mechanisms. The identification of risk factors of hypertension in living kidney donors may provide proper postoperative management.

Methods: A data analysis of 156 living kidney donors (LKDs) was conducted.
Background: Malignancies will be a leading cause of mortality in renal transplant recipients in the next 20 years. Renal cell cancer (RCC) is the most common urologic cancer in kidney transplant recipients. The risk of RCC development in kidney transplant recipients is 15-100 times higher than in the general population.

Recent observations have reported the existence of telomeric repeats containing long ncRNAs ⁻ in mammalian and yeast cells. However, their functions remain poorly characterized.

Growing number of examples have shown that regulatory ncRNAs can control gene expression and chromatin domain formation. In this review, we discuss recent reports that show that Saccharomyces cerevisiae's genome also supports pervasive transcription, which is strongly controlled by RNA decay pathways and nucleosome positioning.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNon-coding (nc)RNAs are key players in numerous biological processes such as gene regulation, chromatin domain formation and genome stability. Large ncRNAs interact with histone modifiers and are involved in cancer development, X-chromosome inactivation and autosomal gene imprinting. However, despite recent evidence showing that pervasive transcription is more widespread than previously thought, only a few examples mediating gene regulation in eukaryotes have been described.

Mutation of the IMP3 termination codon to a sense codon resulted in a viable mutant allele producing a C-terminal elongated form of the Imp3 protein. A strain expressing the mutant allele displayed ribosome biogenesis defects equivalent to IMP3 depletion.

However, there is a growing body of literature indicating that noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are key players for gene regulation, genome stability, and chromatin modification. In addition to the well-known small interfering RNAs and microRNAs acting in transcriptional and posttranscriptional gene silencing, recent advances in the field of transcriptome exploration have revealed novel sets of new small and large ncRNAs.
