Background: Patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) require complex management strategies. This study evaluated the prognostic significance of the perichemotherapy skeletal muscle index (SMI) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) in patients with BRPC or LAPC treated with FOLFIRINOX.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 227 patients with BR or LAPC who received at least four cycles of chemotherapy between 2015 and 2020.
Mechanoluminescence (ML) and digital image correlation (DIC) have emerged as promising optical methods to visualize and measure deformation fields. In this study, a dual-modal sensing skin, called the ML-DIC skin is introduced, that is capable of emitting ML and facilitating DIC measurements under various lighting conditions, including daylight, night or darkness, and UV irradiation. Four ML-DIC skins are fabricated with or without carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using a composite powder consisting of SrAl2O4: Eu,Dy (SAO), and acrylic resin, with CNT milling times of 48, 72, and 96 h for three of four skins, respectively.

However, efficiently identifying and analyzing relevant biomarkers from a vast array of available genetic data is challenging. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a precise and efficient platform for analyzing specific skin biomarkers using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) with the minimal invasive skin sampling method (MISSM).

The traditional, decoupled die structural analysis method (DDSM) of analyzing die structures as one of the post-processing functions is criticized, which uses the tractions exerting on the die parts predicted from the forging simulation under the rigid die assumption. To cope with the matter of the DDSM, a multibody treatment scheme (MBTS) is proposed to simulate the AMSCF process, emphasizing the ejector pin's mechanics, using an implicit elastoplastic finite element method.

Methods: We enrolled 627 patients with resectable PDAC who underwent preoperative 18 F-FDG PET/CT and subsequent curative surgery. Radiomics analysis of the PET/CT images for the primary tumor was performed using the Chang-Gung Image Texture Analysis toolbox.

Background: Intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) and tumor microenvironment (TME) of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) play important roles in tumor evolution and patient outcomes. However, the precise characterization of diverse cell populations and their crosstalk associated with PDAC progression and metastasis is still challenging.
Methods: We performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of treatment-naïve primary PDAC samples with and without paired liver metastasis samples to understand the interplay between ITH and TME in the PDAC evolution and its clinical associations.
Background: Current methods for evaluating efficacy of cosmetics have limitations because they cannot accurately measure changes in the dermis. Skin sampling using microneedles allows identification of skin-type biomarkers, monitoring treatment for skin inflammatory diseases, and evaluating efficacy of anti-aging and anti-pigmentation products.
Materials And Methods: Two studies were conducted: First, 20 participants received anti-aging treatment; second, 20 participants received anti-pigmentation treatment.

Background And Aims: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has the worst survival rate among tumors. At the time of diagnosis, more than 80% of PDACs are considered to be surgically unresectable, and there is an unmet need for treatment options in these inoperable PDACs. This study aimed to establish a patient-derived organoid (PDO) platform from EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) collected at diagnosis and to determine its clinical applicability for the timely treatment of unresectable PDAC.

Background: Endoscopic papillectomy (EP) is an effective method to remove an ampulla of Vater (AoV) adenoma with minimal invasiveness. We reviewed the clinical outcomes and prognosis of patients undergoing EP, including tumor recurrence and adverse events.
Methods: A total of 196 patients who underwent EP from January 2004 to December 2017 were included.
We report high-performance germanium-on-insulator (GeOI) waveguide photodetectors (WGPDs) for electronic-photonic integrated circuits (EPICs) operating at telecommunication wavelengths. The GeOI samples were fabricated using layer transfer and wafer-bonding techniques, and a high-quality Ge active layer was achieved. Planar lateral p-i-n WGPDs were fabricated and characterized, and they exhibited a low dark current of 0.

Method: Between 2015 and 2020, 258 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) were analysed. Treatment outcomes were compared between systemic treatment group (ST) and multimodality treatment groups (MT) using Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank test.
Background: A regimen of gemcitabine, cisplatin, and nab-paclitaxel (GPA) has shown promising results in patients with advanced biliary tract cancer (aBTC).
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the benefit of GPA compared to a regimen of gemcitabine plus cisplatin (GP) in patients with aBTC.
Design: Retrospective study.

Background: The TeloVac study indicated GV1001 did not improve the survival of advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the cytokine examinations suggested that high serum eotaxin levels may predict responses to GV1001. This Phase III trial assessed the efficacy of GV1001 with gemcitabine/capecitabine for eotaxin-high patients with untreated advanced PDAC.

The association of AD with Th2 cytokines is well known; therefore, the analysis of this association is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of AD. This study aimed to present a new method for measuring protein biomarkers in patients with AD, before and after treatment, using minimally invasive microneedles.

Discrete photonic devices, such as waveguides, photodetectors, modulators, and optical pumping lasers, have been successfully demonstrated on this platform. However, there is almost no report on the electrically injected Ge light source on the GOI platform.

Here, GeSn/Ge multiple-quantum-well (MQW) photodetectors with a dielectric nanohole array metasurface were proposed to realize high-detectivity and low-cost SWIR photodetection. The Ge nanohole array metasurface was utilized to enhance the light absorption in the GeSn/Ge MQW active layer.

House dust mite (HDM) is the most common allergen exacerbating atopic dermatitis (AD), and allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) using HDM exhibited significant improvements in previous studies. Alopecia can occur as a complication of AD. Alopecia totalis (AT), a severe form of alopecia areata (AA), does not respond well to treatment and the chance of full recovery is less than 10%.

Complicated pregnancies require careful postpartum management to prevent sequelae. It is believed that kidney injury can consistently occur even after delivery; therefore, defining the chronicity and endpoint is essential for establishing diagnostic criteria.
