Treatment of extensive comminuted mandibular fracture between both mandibular angles with bilateral condylar fractures using a reconstruction plate: a case report.

This following case report describes the open reduction, internal fixation and the reconstruction of an extensive comminuted mandibular fracture with bilateral condylar fractures in a 19-year-old male patient with an intellectual disability and autistic disorder. He suffered fall trauma, resulting in shattered bony fragments of the alveolus and mandibular body between both mandibular rami, the fracture of both condyles and the avulsion or dislocation of every posterior tooth of the mandible. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation between both mandibular rami using a reconstruction plate, open reduction and internal fixation of the shattered fragments using miniplates and screws, and the closed reduction of the bilateral condylar fractures.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical utility of a salivary α-amylase (sAA) biosensor for assessing oral surgery-related stress responses and the differential effect of the personality trait of pain catastrophizing.

Patients And Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in 76 healthy subjects who underwent elective removal of their third molars. Along with subjects' self-reports of anxiety and pain, biosensor-facilitated measurements of sAA levels were obtained at multiple time points during the preoperative consult, surgery, and postsurgical follow-up visits.

Fractal analysis of mandibular bony healing after orthognathic surgery.

Objectives: We evaluated the radiographic changes to the operational sites after orthognathic surgery by using fractal analysis.

Study Design: Panoramic radiographs from 35 patients who underwent orthognathic surgery on the mandible without any complications during the osseous healing process were selected. The radiographs taken before the operation (stage 0) and 1 or 2 days (stage 1), 1 month (stage 2), 6 months (stage 3), and 12 months (stage 4) after the operation were digitized at 600 dpi with 256 gray levels.
