Background: Operating room (OR) efficiency is of paramount importance for scheduling, cost efficiency and to allow for the high operating volume required to address the growing demand for arthroplasty. The purpose of this study was to develop a machine learning predictive model for Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (TSA) procedure duration and to identify factors which are predictive of a prolonged procedure.
Methods: A retrospective review was undertaken of all TSA between 2013-2021 in a large academic institution.
Introduction: Understanding the impact of Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) on shoulder arthroplasty is pivotal for the development of equitable value-based payment models that enhance the quality of patient care. This investigation aims to understand the influence of Area Deprivation Index (ADI) on hospital admissions, readmissions, and associated costs post-shoulder arthroplasty.
Methods: We conducted an analysis using US Medicare claims data from 2019 to 2021, identifying patients who received shoulder arthroplasty in either an inpatient or outpatient setting using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes.
Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to systematically review complications arising from intramedullary nailing (IMN) of proximal and humeral shaft fractures. This study hypothesized that there would be a low rate of complications and revision among patients treated with IMN for humerus fractures.
Methods: Two independent reviewers performed a literature search in the PubMed database based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.
Purpose Of Review: This narrative review comprehensively aims to analyze recent advancements in shoulder arthroplasty, focusing on implant systems and their impact on patient outcomes. The purpose is to provide a nuanced understanding of the evolving landscape in shoulder arthroplasty, incorporating scientific, regulatory, and ethical dimensions.
Recent Findings: The review synthesizes recent literature on stemless implants, augmented glenoid components, inlay vs onlay configurations, convertible stems, and associated complications.
Background: Videos relating to rehabilitation exercises for common injuries relevant to younger populations such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear receive high view counts on social media platforms such as TikTok.
Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality, reliability, and educational value of TikTok videos among the patient population for ACL injury. It was hypothesized that TikTok videos related to ACL rehabilitation exercises would lack quality, reliability, and educational value.
Background: The purpose of this study was to systematically review the evidence in the literature to determine the clinical outcomes following glenohumeral arthrodesis.
Methods: Two independent reviewers performed a literature search in the PubMed database based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies were included if they reported on outcomes following shoulder arthrodesis from the years of 2000-2022.
Introduction: Peripheral nerve blocks (PNB) has been increasingly used in the care of patients with geriatric hip fracture to reduce perioperative opiate use and the need for general anesthesia. However, the associated motor palsy may impair patients' ability to mobilize effectively after surgery and subsequently may increase latency to key mobility milestones postoperatively, as well as increase inpatient length of stay (LOS). The aim of this study was to investigate time-to-mobility milestones and length of hospital stay between peripheral, epidural, and general anesthesia.
