Pseudorapidity, transverse momentum, and multiplicity distributions are measured in the pseudorapidity range for charged particles with transverse momenta satisfying in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of . Measurements are presented in three different event categories. The most inclusive of the categories corresponds to an inelastic data set, while the other two categories are exclusive subsets of the inelastic sample that are either enhanced or depleted in single diffractive dissociation events.

Reactions of glutathione (GSH) with O,O-diorganyl dithiophosphoric acids (DTPA) were studied to develop bioactive derivatives of GSH. Effective coupling reaction of GSH with DTPA was proposed to produce the ammonium dithiophosphates (GSH-DTPA) between the NH group in γ-glutamyl residue of GSH and the SH group in DTPA. A series of the GSH-DTPA salts based on O-alkyl or O-monoterpenyl substituted DTPA were synthesized.

Glioblastoma is the most frequent and aggressive brain tumor in the adult population. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at markers of the long arm of chromosome 10 is the most common genetic alteration in glioblastoma, being detectable in up to 80% of cases. We have tested 124 glioblastoma samples for LOH by microsatellite analysis of the 10q23.

Article Synopsis
  • A new measurement of the top quark mass is reported, focusing on single top quark events produced through the electroweak channel using data from the CMS detector at the LHC with a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV.
  • The analysis involves reconstructing top quark candidates via their decay into a W boson (which decays to a muon and a neutrino) and a b quark, thus enhancing the sample purity and reducing interference from top quark pair production.
  • The final measurement aligns with the current world average, providing a unique contribution to future averages by reducing systematic uncertainties linked to single top quark processes.

Searches are presented for direct production of top or bottom squark pairs in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC. Two searches, based on complementary techniques, are performed in all-jet final states that are characterized by a significant imbalance in transverse momentum. An additional search requires the presence of a charged lepton isolated from other activity in the event.

A series of new triphenylphosphonium (TPP) derivatives of the triterpenoid betulin (1, 3-lup-20(29)-ene-3β,28-diol) have been synthesized and evaluated for cytotoxic effects against human breast cancer (MCF-7), prostate adenocarcinoma (PC-3), vinblastine-resistant human breast cancer (MCF-7/Vinb), and human skin fibroblast (HSF) cells. The TPP moiety was applied as a carrier group through the acyl linker at the 28- or 3- and 28-positions of betulin to promote cellular and mitochondrial accumulation of the resultant compounds. A structure-activity relationship study has revealed the essential role of the TPP group in the biological properties of the betulin derivatives produced.

Aim: To assess the significance of determining the serum and urinary concentrations of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), and type IV collagen in patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) to estimate the activity of renal involvement in AAV.

Subjects And Methods: 78 patients (32 men and 46 women) (median age 55 (45; 61) years) with AAV were examined. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the AAV activity estimated using the Birmingham vasculitis activity Score (BVAS): 1) 25 patients with active ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis (GN); 2) 26 patients with active AAV without renal involvement; 3) 27 patients in sustained AAV remission.
