Hygienic evaluation covered health state of pregnant women and newborns, subjected to chemical pollution of environment by aluminium industrial enterprises. The data obtained helped to suggest methodic approach to selection of priority territories, environmental and health state parameters within social hygienic monitoring system, to form recommendations on creation of system supporting management decisions to lower negative influence of chemical environmental factors on health of pregnant women and newborns.

In preparation of the therapeutic genetic constructs aimed to the gene-programmed enzymatic transformation of the non-toxic prodrug into toxin within cancer cells the right choice of regulatory elements (promoters and enhancers) is essential. This is widely accepted that the efficiency of the gene therapy constructions is dependent, in particular, on the strength of promoters driving the expression of the therapeutic genes. In this work we demonstrated, using the melanoma-specific promoters and enhancers of human melanoma inhibitory activity and mouse tyrosinase gene, that for the development of cytotoxic effect the promoter strength is not of primary importance.

The calculated values of the binding energy of nonapeptides with receptors in docking with their influence on reabsorption of osmotically free water in a rat bud in vivo were compared. Vasotocin and some its analogs were intramuscularly introduced to non-narcotized rat females of the Wistar line in doses from 0.1 pmol to 0.

The study is carried out on Wistar white rats non-adapted to oxygen deficit and on semiaquatic rodents muskrats adapted to periodic arrest of respiration during diving under conditions of Nembutal narcosis. It has been revealed that 1 h after a subcutaneous injection of sodium nitrite (3 mg/100 g body mass), intensification of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in the muskrat brain is absent, the activity of the antioxidant enzyme catalase increasing 16 times (p < 0/01) as compared with control injected with equivalent saline volume. In heart and liver, a statistically significant decrease of the content of LPO products active in the test with 2-thionarbituric acid; in the femoral muscle tissue, the LPO intensity does not change.

Secretory polymeric immunoglobulins (IgA dimers and IgM pentamers) are unique in that, apart from L- and H-chains, they contain J-chains responsible for their oligomerization. These antibodies are part of the local adaptive immune system acting on mucosa membranes of the respiratory and digestive systems as the first protection barrier to potential infectious agents. Secretory polymeric immunoglobulins are produced by highly specific B-cells and actively transported to the surface of mucosa membrane through epithelium cells.

The paper presents data on multienvironmental pollution in the area exposed to emission from an aluminum works and on the reproductive function of women living in the areas where these enterprises are located. Reconstruction of an Urals aluminum plant (SUAL-UAZ) has improved the environment, reducing the incidence of pregnancy and labor abnormalities and improving the neonatal infants' health.

Spontaneous and evoked biopotentials were recorded on the mammary gland surface in goats. The biopotentials appear in the course of secretion during milk ejection as well as under electrical, mechanical and hormonal actions. They might be considered as adequate indices of secretion and ejection processes in the mammary gland.

In Amazon River dolphins, bottle-nosed dolphins and white whales, comparative studies have been made on cardiac electrical activity using electrocardiographic and telemetric techniques. In all the species investigated, certain dependence of cardiac cycle duration on the phase of respiratory pause was observed. A pronounced bradycardia was noted in diving animals which reflects the level of their adaptation to hypoxia and hypoxemia.

The observation over 20 cases of hemophilia with severe renal bleedings proved the possibility of rendering an effective surgical aid to these patients. Besides, on the grounds of the observations the authors concluded that in all the cases of hematuria and microhematuria constitute indications for x-ray examination of the kidneys and the urinary tract.
