The homogeneous acetic acid synthesis-type Ru-Co-Li/N-methylpyrrolidone catalyst for CO and H transformations has been studied at moderately high pressures. For 1CO:2H, low acetic acid selectivity has been observed, along with remarkable methyl acetate selectivity, the absence of aldehydes and ethyl acetate and sharp deviations from the Anderson-Schultz-Flory distribution for both alcaohols and long-chain hydrocarbons. For 1CO:1H and slightly elevated pressure, acetic acid selectivity slightly increased, notable ethyl acetate formation was detected, and both long-chain hydrocarbons and alcohols disappeared.

We compared samples of microencapsulated naloxone prepared by using spray drying technique. 2-Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, sodium alginate, polycaprolactone, and carboxymethyl cellulose were used as the carriers. It was found that the combination of naloxone with sodium alginate was characterized by the highest naloxone content in the matrix and the lowest release rate (100% release time was 60 min).

The objective of the present work was to study age-related features of the reaction of the maxillary sinus cavity walls to a variety of impacts associated with the surgical interventions. To this effect, a variety of stress-strain conditions were simulated that are known to arise in the maxillary sinus cavity walls under the action of different force vectors taking into consideration the age-specific peculiarities of the mechanical structure of the bone tissue. The 3D model of the maxillary sinus cavity was built up based on the results of spiral computed tomography with the use of the Solid Works 2012 software package (USA).

In addition to the obligatory pathogenic species of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and Mycobacterium leprae, the genus Mycobacterium also includes conditionally pathogenic species that in rare cases can lead to the development of nontuberculous mycobacterial diseases. Because tuberculosis and mycobacteriosis have similar clinical signs, the accurate identification of the causative agent in a clinical microbiology laboratory is important for diagnostic verification and appropriate treatment. This report describes a low-density hydrogel-based microarray containing oligonucleotide probes based on the species-specific sequences of the gyrB gene fragment for mycobacterial species identification.

The objective of the present work was to study the possibilities of the combined application of thermography and local thermometry for diagnostics of acute sinusitis, characteristic of dynamics of the clinical course of this pathology, and evaluation of the effectiveness of its treatment. The study included 23 patients presenting with acute rhinosinusitis and 21 ones free from pathology of paranasal sinuses. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of bimatoprost/timolol fixed combination (Ganfort) in decreasing intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and uncontrolled secondary neovascular glaucoma (NG).

Material And Methods: The study included 50 patients (51 eyes) with diabetes mellitus and sings of uncontrolled secondary NG, which was later confirmed by the results of ophthalmological assessment. A comparative study of the effect of the combination of Nissen fundoplication, different variants of splenectomy ligation of left gastric artery on stomach wall arterial bed blood fillability was carried out on 40 human corpses in 6 research series. The red lead paint suspension was used for the injection of arterial bed. It was shown that combination of Nissen operation andligation of stomach short arteries during splenectomy and left gastric artery trunk in its intraligamental part resulted in the impairment of the stomach wall blood supply.

Time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance was used to study the properties of carotenoid triplet states populated in LH2 light-harvesting complexes of phototrophic bacteria Allochromatium minutissimum, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, and in carotenoid films free of bacteriochlorophyll. The study was performed on purified LH2 preparations not contaminated by reaction centers, and under selective pigment excitation. The obtained results enable a conclusion that the carotenoid triplet states, both in LH2 complexes and films, are populated in the process of homofission of singlet excitation into two triplets, which involves only carotenoid molecules.

Two hybridization zones were taken as an example (the russet ground squirrel (Spermophilus major) and the speckled ground squirrel (Spermophilus suslicus), the russet ground squirrel and the yellow ground squirrel (S. fulvus) to show that biotope characteristics determine segregation of sympatric species in contact populations. The heterogeneity of biotopes with regard to the requirements of sympatric species promotes their long-term and steady dispersal and, in rare cases, sporadic hybridization.

Reproductive relations between animals in the hybrid settlement of the russet and yellow ground squirrels are panmictic and are characterized by the absence of assortative crossings and by the presence of multimale pairings in females with evidently heterospermic broods. Maximum breeding success was observed for hybrid animals proving the fertility of hybrids. However, the hybrid breeding potential (young animal survival rate) is significantly lower as compared with russet and yellow ground squirrels, but the survival rate of the hybrid progeny in the hybrid population is not lower than in specific settlements.

EPR characteristics of transient paramagnetic states photoinduced in isolated reaction centers of Rhodobacter sphaeroides R26 with intact electron transfer have been studied. It was demonstrated that the detected weak triplet state EPR signal belongs to the primary donor molecule and is populated via the conventional mechanism of radical pair S-T0 mixing. The distortion of the spectral shape of this signal is explained by the triplet quantum yield anisotropy brought about by the short lifetime of precursor radical pairs.

It was established in experiments on noninbred rats that their ethanol intoxication (13 days; total dose, 2.6 LD50) significantly reduces the concentration of blood cytokines IFNgamma, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, increases the concentration of IL-6, suppresses the immune responses, and reduces the interrelation IFNgamma/IL-4 in comparison to the control, which testifies to the greater damage of Th1 cells in comparison to Th2 lymphocytes. The immunomodulator polyoxidonium administered for four days at a daily dose of 700 microg/kg fully restores the cellular and humoral immune responses and the synthesis of cytokines IFNgamma, IL-2, and IL-4 and partly restores the production of IL-10.

A total of 254 Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains were used in the study. Among them, there were 183 ethambutol (EMB)-resistant strains, 13 multidrug resistant ones, but EMB-sensitive, and 39 strains sensitive to rifampicin (RIF), isoniazid (INZ), and EMB. All the strains were analyzed for genetic changes in three loci: embB306, rpoB, and katG/inhA promoter, which were associated with the formation of resistance to EMB, RIF, and INZ, respectively.

Aim: To characterize a clinical course of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and spontaneous reperfusion of the coronary arteries (SR) as well as in patients after reperfusion thrombolytic therapy (TLT) and/or transluminal balloon coronary angioplasty (TBCA); to compare effectiveness of different approaches to treatment of SR patients: conservative--early medication and active--TBCA on the first postmyocardial 24 hours.

Material And Methods: We studied 479 patients admitted to hospital not later than 6 hours since STEMI onset and either having SR (n = 49) or treated using active methods of coronary circulation restoration--prehospital thrombolysis (n = 127), thrombolysis after hospitalization (n = 127), primary TBCA (n = 60) and TBCA after initiation of TLT (n = 116). We made a more detailed analysis on the sample of 149 SR patients.

Therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis in patients is complicated by their negative psychoemotional state frequently deteriorated by long inpatient stay. Enhancing the efficiency of rehabilitative measures in phthisiology requires active optimization of the patients' mental state. This problem can be solved by a package of correction measures involving psychological correction with reflex therapeutic normalization of the functional state of the cortical regions of the central nervous system in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
