Animals often acquire their microbial symbionts from the environment, but the mechanisms underlying how specificity of the association is achieved are poorly understood. We demonstrate that the conserved proton pump, V-type ATPase (VHA), plays a key role in the establishment of the model light-organ symbiosis between the squid Euprymna scolopes and its bacterial partner, Vibrio fischeri. Recruitment of V.

The thicknesses of poly(didodecylquaterthiophene--didodecylbithiazole) active layers were 26 and 37 nm. All OFETs exhibited nonlinear (nonideal) transfer characteristics with a maximum transconductance within the gate-source voltage sweep range.

The morphology of the clusters is non-uniform because the clustering is a consequence of the random collisions of the drifting droplets. Here we report distinctively organized coacervation, yielding colloidal molecules with monodisperse size, morphological symmetry, and compositional heterogeneity.

Although there are many different therapeutic approaches for RVF depending on the patient's' condition, there are no established guidelines for the care of RVF. This study aimed to evaluate the results of laparoscopic colostomy in advanced cancer patients with RVF, and the safety and efficacy of this surgery.

The use of commercially available MnBr(CO) as a precatalyst under the optimized reaction conditions resulted in a site- and regioselective hydroarylation polyaddition, affording the corresponding poly(arylenevinylene)s (PAVs) with excellent vinylene selectivity. The reaction protocol eliminates the production of stoichiometric amounts of byproducts from the monomers.

However, no studies have examined marital relationships in persistent depressive disorder (PDD) in terms of neurodevelopmental traits. This study aimed to explore the association between the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) traits of female PDD patients and both partners' (patient and husband) marital satisfaction.

A 1-pyrazole substituent serves as an appropriate directing group for a Co-catalyst to efficiently activate the C-H bonds of generally inactive six-membered aromatic hydrocarbons. The 1-pyrazole groups in 2,6-di(1-pyrazolyl)naphthalene adopt planar conformations and act as directing groups, resulting in a smooth hydroarylation reaction.

These molecules have conventionally been synthesized by cross-coupling reactions; however, in recent years, direct functionalization of C-H bonds has been used to synthesize organic optoelectronic materials. Representative reactions include direct arylation reactions (C-H/C-X couplings, with X being halogen or pseudo-halogen) and cross-dehydrogenative coupling (C-H/C-H cross-coupling) reactions.

In this study, we characterize the tissue metabolomes and microbiomes of corals, macroalgae, and crustose coralline algae via an intensive, replicated synoptic survey of a single coral reef system (Waimea Bay, O'ahu, Hawaii) and use these results to define associations between microbial taxa and metabolites specific to different hosts. Our results quantify and constrain the degree of host specificity of tissue metabolomes and microbiomes at both phylum and genus level.

Pd/Ag dual-catalyst system under water/2-methyltetrahydrofuran biphasic conditions enables direct arylation under mild conditions and promotes the intramolecular transfer of a Pd catalyst walking through the fluorene moiety. The nonstoichiometric direct arylation polycondensation under the optimized reaction conditions produces the corresponding π-conjugated polymer with a high molecular weight and terminal octafluorobiphenyl units at both ends.

In this study, to develop n-type semiconducting materials with an anthracene core, pentafluorobenzene was introduced into anthracene by C-H direct arylation, enabling the synthesis of various bis(pentafluorophenyl)anthracene (DPA-F) derivatives. The high reactivity of the pentafluorobenzene C-H bond allows direct arylation for synthesizing DPA-F derivatives in a single step.

Although fibrosis accompanies many cardiac pathologies and is generally deleterious, the role of fibroblasts in maintaining the basal ECM network and in fibrosis in vivo is poorly understood. During perinatal development, fibroblast expansion coincides with the transition from hyperplastic to hypertrophic myocardial growth. Therefore, we investigated the consequences of fibroblast loss at the time of cardiomyocyte maturation by depleting fibroblasts in the perinatal mouse.

The mechanisms that sense alterations in total body sodium content to facilitate sodium homeostasis in response to an acute sodium challenge that does not increase blood pressure have not been fully elucidated. We hypothesized that the renal sympathetic nerves are critical to mediate natriuresis via α- or β-adrenoceptors signal transduction pathways to maintain sodium balance in the face of acute increases in total body sodium content that do not activate the pressure-natriuresis mechanism. To address this hypothesis, we used acute bilateral renal denervation (RDNX), an anteroventral third ventricle (AV3V) lesion and α- or β-antagonism during an acute 1M NaCl sodium challenge in conscious male Sprague Dawley rats.

However, the origin of the signal that drives the endogenous activation and up-regulation of PVN Gαi subunit protein signal transduction pathways is unknown. By central oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) administration we show that the pressor responses to central acute administration and central infusion of sodium chloride occur independently of brain Gαi protein pathways.
