Background: Particle therapy (PT) as an initial hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment has been reported to be effective; however, its efficacy for the treatment of recurrent HCC remains unclear.

Objective: This is a report on the usefulness of 3D fusion imaging with susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) as preoperative imaging for mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Case Presentations: Among 17 cases of patients who underwent MT in AIS between March 2021 and April 2022, 14 patients who underwent MRI with SWI (shortened SWI for stroke) and 3D T2-weighted sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolution were targeted in the study. Three cases with motion artifacts due to body movement were excluded from the images.

A 91-year-old man had a node and erythema in the anal area resistant to treatment. A biopsy of the node in the anus showed atypical cells developing as Paget's disease, and staining revealed that the cells were CK7-positive, CK20-positive, and GCDFP15-negative. Therefore, tumor invasion with pagetoid spread (PS) from the anus to the skin was suspected, and the patient was referred to our department for a close examination and surgical treatment.

Purpose: We investigated the influence of intraoperative continuous tranexamic acid (TA) infusion on the amount of blood transfusion required in emergency surgery for type A acute aortic dissection.

Intraoperative assessment of a repaired mitral valve is of paramount importance for reparative mitral surgery. From September 2010 through November 2012, 20 consecutive patients underwent mitral valve plasty for mitral regurgitation. The patients who underwent surgery after June 2012 received assessment of the repair with the heart beating (HB group, n = 10), and the patients who underwent the operation before May 2012 were assessed for the repair only under cardioplegic heart arrest (non-HB group, n = 10).

The phosphorylation of 5'-deoxy-5-fluorouridine (doxifluridine, 5'-DFUR) has been achieved using inorganic cyclo-triphosphate (P(3m), Na(3)P(3)O(9)) and monoimido-cyclo-triphosphate (MCTP, Na(3)P(3)O(8)NH) in aqueous solution. In the reaction of 5'-DFUR with P(3m), 2'-monophospho-5'-DFUR and 3'-monophospho-5'-DFUR were synthesized with a total yield of more than 95%. In the reaction of 5'-DFUR with MCTP, 2'-diphosphoramidophosphono-5'-DFUR and 3'-diphosphoramidophosphono-5'-DFUR were synthesized with a total yield of more than 40%.

Hirayama disease is a nonprogressive, asymmetric amyotrophy of the hands and forearms, possibly caused by compression of the lower cervical cord on neck flexion. The authors used phase-contrast MR angiography to study a patient with this disorder and observed abnormal spinal epidural venous dilation on neck flexion. In addition to mechanical compression of the lower cervical cord, venous congestion in the spinal canal may have a role in promoting anterior horn damage.

We report a 71-year-old woman with concomitant ocular myasthenia gravis and euthyroid Graves' ophthalmopathy. Unilateral ophthalmoplegia, including ptosis, initially was responsive to edrophonium and corticosteroids, except for diplopia on upward gaze, but refractory swelling of the inferior rectus muscle and proptosis followed.
