Background: Concussions are a prevalent health concern, affecting millions of individuals in the United States yearly. Concussion symptomology overlaps with other conditions making diagnosis and management particularly challenging, particularly among individuals with ADHD. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects a significant portion of the adult population.

Background: Few studies have examined white matter with diffusion tensor imaging in 8- to 12-year-old collision sport (CS) athletes.

Hypothesis: Youth CS athletes will demonstrate change in brain fractional anisotropy (FA) after a season of CS compared with an age-matched noncollision sport (NCS) cohort, and the number, magnitude, and location of hits will correlate with changes in the brain determined via FA for CS athletes.

Study Design: Prospective cohort study.

Background: Orthopaedic clinics have acquired a multitude of health professionals to improve clinic efficiency. More recently, athletic trainers (ATs) have been utilized to improve clinical efficiency and patient care because of their extensive background in musculoskeletal injuries and anatomy. Improved clinical efficiency allows for increased patient visits, potentially enhancing patient access and downstream revenue via relative value units (RVUs).

Background And Incidence: Ischial tuberosity fracture and its associated complications are an under recognized diagnosis in the adolescent athlete. Apophyseal injuries of the pelvis in the skeletally immature athlete can occur in multiple locations but are most common at the ischial tuberosity, affecting males more commonly than females.

Description Of Injury And Current Management: The most common cause of ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture is a quick eccentric load to the proximal hamstrings, occurring with kicking as in soccer, football, or dance.

Purpose: To determine the volume of injury to the physis during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in pediatric patients.

Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging scans of 10 pediatric knees were converted into 3-dimensional models. Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing software placed drill holes (6, 7, 8, and 9 mm in diameter) in these models, simulating tunnels used for ACL reconstruction.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship of plasma levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) to physiologic parameters and cardiac morphologic characteristics in a population of young athletes. Our hypothesis is that physiologic and cardiac morphologic characteristics do not predict BNP levels in adolescent athletes.

Design: Observational study.

Background: Widespread variation in state laws produces significant differences in state-to-state liability risk and insurance cost. These variations may produce higher medical liability for certain pediatric practitioners because many states have a significantly longer period of potential liability for physicians caring for children. This study reviewed state laws for variability in the period of medical liability for pediatric and adult patients and considered some of the impacts resulting from such variability.
