Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine postoperative tilt and decentration after implantation of plate-haptic intraocular lenses (IOLs) after cataract surgery.
Methods: This was an observational retrospective study in which we analyzed the medical records of patients who underwent phacoemulsification with aspiration followed by the implantation of either a plate-haptic IOL (LS-313 MF15; Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
Background: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common adverse drug event with limited pediatric data in the literature. This study aimed to use pediatric electronic medical records to assess hepatocellular DILI in pediatric patients who were prescribed liver-injury-inducing drugs.
Methods: The Pediatric Medical Information Collection System (P-MICS) is a centralized database integrating electronic medical records from over 40 medical pediatric centers.
Background: The impact of radiation exposure on cataracts and hand skin cancer in orthopaedic and spine surgeons remains understudied. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of cataracts and chronic hand inflammation in orthopaedic and spine surgeons and to assess their association with radiation exposure.
Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on orthopaedic and spine surgeons attending the 38th Annual Meeting of the Neurospinal Society of Japan or the 31st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for the Study of Low Back Pain.
Primary bone marrow lymphoma (PBML) is a malignant lymphoma characterized by proliferation of lymphoma cells exclusively in the bone marrow without lymphadenopathy. Despite the dismal prognosis of PBML, it is a very rare lymphoma with limited evidence concerning its pathophysiology, making accumulation of cases important. We herein report three cases of PBML at our institution.

We previously conducted a survey on the occupational radiation exposure of IR nurses in three designated emergency hospitals in Japan. Our findings indicated that a hospital with 214 beds showed a higher lens-equivalent dose than hospitals with 678 and 1182 beds because the distance between the X-ray irradiation field and the IR nurse's position of the hospital with 214 beds was shorter than those of 678 and 1182 beds.

Some guidelines recommend initiating regular laxatives at the same time as opioid analgesics. However, the effectiveness of prophylactic laxatives on OIC has not been widely demonstrated.

A Mn-based sodium-containing layered oxide, P'2-type NaMnO, is revisited as a positive electrode material for sodium-ion batteries, and factors affecting its electrochemical performances are examined. The cyclability of NaMnO is remarkably improved by increasing the lower cut-off voltage during cycling even though the reversible capacity is sacrificed. Furthermore, the use of highly concentrated electrolytes, in which the presence of free solvent molecules is eliminated, effectively suppresses the dissolution of Mn ions, thus enabling stable cycling with >85% capacity retention for 300 continuous cycles.

In mitochondrial disease, abnormalities in brain function are thought to be attributed to accumulation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) with pathogenic mutations; however, only few previous studies have directly demonstrated that accumulation of mutant mtDNA induced abnormalities in brain function. Herein, we examined the effects of mtDNA mutations on brain function via behavioral analyses using a mouse model with an A2748G point mutation in mtDNA tRNA.

Case Report: An 88-year-old female with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) attended our hospital because of a compression fracture and chronic heart failure with chronic anemia.
We devised a method to detect the classical swine fever virus (CSFV) in tail-wiped swabs from wild boars. The CSFV gene in swabs was detected with high sensitivity using nested real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is a combination of reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) and real-time PCR. We compared CSFV gene detection from boar tissue using the conventional and our tail-wiped swab method.

However, the impact of the Rhesus (Rh) D mismatch on transplant outcomes in allogeneic HCT has been poorly elucidated.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the impact of the RhD mismatch on post-transplant outcomes in 64,923 patients who underwent allogeneic HCT between 2000 and 2021 using a Japanese registry database.
With the International Commission on Radiological Protection's (ICRP) reduction in the radiation dose threshold for cataracts, evaluating and preventing radiation exposure to the lens of the eye among interventional radiology (IR) staff have become urgent tasks. In this study, we focused on differences in lens-equivalent dose (H) to which IR nurses in three hospitals were exposed and aimed to identify factors underlying these differences. According to analyses of time-, distance-, and shielding-related factors, the magnitude of the H dose to which IR nurses were exposed could be explained not by time or shielding but by the distance between the X-ray exposure field and the location of the IR nurse.

Methods: We retrospectively recruited T2D patients who underwent abdominal unenhanced CT scans both before and after administration of liraglutide (N = 13) or glimepiride (N = 29).
This is the first report of vestibular examinations before and after the successful treatment of vestibular migraine (VM), a common cause of recurrent vertigo, with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor inhibitor. We evaluated a 42-year-old female with VM and concomitant probable Meniere's disease, whose headache and dizziness have improved promptly with the administration of erenumab, a CGRP receptor inhibitor. The sensorineural hearing loss in pure-tone audiometry, dysfunctions shown in vestibular examinations (cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials), and mild endolymphatic hydrops shown in gadolinium-enhanced inner ear magnetic resonance imaging, all in the right ear, revealed no change compared with those observed before treatment.

It is sometimes accompanied by hyperactivity, day-night reversal, and amenorrhea. No medications have been approved specific to the treatment of AN, partially due to its unclear etiopathogenesis.

Although several multicenter studies proposed the risk assessment of allo-SCT for the elderly, they receive different treatments and management at each facility. Therefore, accumulating data from institutions that exhibit relatively the same treatment policy and patient care is important.
