Objectives: The vacuum erection device (VED) is a second-line treatment tool recommended in erectile dysfunction (ED) guidelines but has long been unavailable in Japan. A new VED, Vigor 2020 (A & HB Company Limited, Tokyo, Japan), has now been manufactured and received medical approval from the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency in Japan. We conducted a retrospective observational study of ED patients who used Vigor 2020 in clinical practice.

Objective: To clarify the circadian rhythm of urination in hospitalized women with nocturia measured by toilet uroflowmetry and its age-related change.

Methods: We evaluated 2602 urinations of 58 female patients (age, 68.4 ± 15.

Species phylogenetic trees represent the evolutionary processes of organisms, and they are fundamental in evolutionary research. Therefore, new methods have been developed to obtain more reliable species phylogenetic trees. A highly reliable method is the construction of an ortholog data set based on sequence information of genes, which is then used to infer the species phylogenetic tree.

Objectives: To clarify the efficacy of low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy for patients with erectile dysfunction, compare the efficacy between two types of lithotripters (ED1000 [focused type] and Renova [linear type]), and detect factors indicative of therapeutic gain with the treatment.

Methods: This retrospective study included 76 patients (52.8 ± 11.

Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) is generally treated with testosterone replacement therapy. Intramuscular injection of testosterone enanthate is used for LOH in Japan but requires regular painful injections administered every 2-3 weeks at a clinic. Testosterone 2% (AndroForte 2 [AF2]) is available for treating LOH but is expensive because it is imported.

Background: Overweight and obesity complicates the care and treatment of ART patients and predispose them to chronic non-communicable diseases. However, there is a shortage of research evidence on overweight and obesity and its associated factors among adult ART patients in our setting. Therefore, this study aimed to asses overweight and obesity and associated factors among adult ART patients at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Southern Ethiopia.

Background: It is estimated that by 2040 there will be 1,017,712 new cases of prostate cancer worldwide. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is widely used as a treatment option for all disease stages. ADT, and the resulting decline in androgen levels, may indirectly affect gut microbiota.

Purpose: Although patients with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) often experience lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), LUTS are not generally included in LOH symptoms. No study has examined the direct relation of the Aging Males Symptoms rating scale (AMS) and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) with the quality of life (QOL) index. We analyzed the relation between the IPSS and QOL index and various factors including the AMS in patients with LOH syndromes.

Since the clinical adoption of magnetic resonance (MR) in medical imaging, MR has proven to be a workhorse in diagnostic neuroradiology, with the ability to provide superb anatomic detail as well as additional functional and physiologic data, depending on the techniques utilized. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography has also shown irreplaceable diagnostic value in certain disease processes of the central nervous system by providing molecular and metabolic information through the development of numerous disease-specific PET tracers, many of which can be utilized as a diagnostic technique in and of themselves or can provide a valuable adjunct to information derived from MR. Despite these advances, many challenges still remain in neuroradiology, particularly in malignancy, neurodegenerative disease, epilepsy, and cerebrovascular disease.

Objective: This study was designed to determine whether intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) aimed at weight loss lowers cancer incidence and mortality.

Methods: Data from the Look AHEAD trial were examined to investigate whether participants randomized to ILI designed for weight loss would have reduced overall cancer incidence, obesity-related cancer incidence, and cancer mortality, as compared with the diabetes support and education (DSE) comparison group. This analysis included 4,859 participants without a cancer diagnosis at baseline except for nonmelanoma skin cancer.

Objective: This study evaluated weight changes after cessation of the 10-year intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) in the Look AHEAD (Action for Health in Diabetes) study. It was hypothesized that ILI participants would be more likely to gain weight during the 2-year observational period following termination of weight-loss-maintenance counseling than would participants in the diabetes support and education (DSE) control group.

Methods: Look AHEAD was a randomized controlled trial that compared the effects of ILI and DSE on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in participants with overweight/obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Background: Lifestyle interventions have been shown to improve physical function over the short term; however, whether these benefits are sustainable is unknown. The long-term effects of an intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) on physical function were assessed using a randomized post-test design in the Look AHEAD trial.

Methods: Overweight and obese (body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m2) middle-aged and older adults (aged 45-76 years at enrollment) with type 2 diabetes enrolled in Look AHEAD, a trial evaluating an ILI designed to achieve weight loss through caloric restriction and increased physical activity compared to diabetes support and education (DSE), underwent standardized assessments of performance-based physical function including a 4- and 400-m walk, lower extremity physical performance (expanded Short Physical Performance Battery, SPPBexp), and grip strength approximately 11 years postrandomization and 1.

Background: Intestinal schistosomiasis is one of the neglected tropical parasitic diseases caused by Schistosoma mansoni. Currently, the control measures for the disease are mainly based on mass drug administration (MDA) with praziquantel (PZQ) targeting the school-age children. In Ethiopia, the potential foci for schistosomiasis and therapeutic efficacy of PZQ among school-age children remain poorly explored.

Luteolin is a naturally occurring flavone that reportedly has anti-inflammatory effects. Because most luteolin is conjugated following intestinal absorption, free luteolin is likely present at low levels in the body. Therefore, luteolin metabolites are presumably responsible for luteolin bioactivity.

Background: Our group has recently provided a proof-of-principle for the examination of pooled stool samples using McMaster technique as a strategy for the rapid assessment of intensity of soil-transmitted helminth infections (STH, Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura and hookworm). In the present study we evaluated this pooling strategy for the assessment of intensity of both STH and Schistosoma mansoni infections using the Kato-Katz technique.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 360 children aged 5-18 years from six schools in Jimma Zone (southwest Ethiopia).

Translocation (8;21)/AML1-ETO is considered a favorable cytogenetic abnormality in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the outcomes associated with KIT mutations in AML1-ETO have not been elucidated. A 16-year-old boy was diagnosed with recurrent AML.

Purpose: Breast or cervical cancer screening visits may present an opportunity to motivate mothers to have their daughters vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV). In preparation for a future intervention study, we sought to establish the feasibility of using these visits to identify women with at least one daughter in the appropriate age range for adolescent HPV vaccination.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional mailed survey of women who had received breast or cervical cancer screening within the 6-18 months before the survey.

Hypoplasia of the mandible and teeth is reported in a 4-year-old boy who had cystic hygroma. At age 7 months he had been treated with 60Co-gamma-radiation (24 Gy to the head and neck, 45 Gy to the mediastinum) followed by surgery. Panoramic and periapical radiographs showed hypoplasia of the roots of the primary canines, molars, and permanent teeth and no evidence of tooth germs.
