The proximal basis for and the maintenance of alternative male reproductive strategies and tactics are generally not understood in most species, despite the occurrence of male polymorphism across many taxa. In the marine amphipod Jassa marmorata, males differ in morphology as well as behaviour. This dimorphism corresponds to two contrasting reproductive strategies: small sneaker males or 'minors', and large fighter males or 'majors'.

Pulmonary arteriovenous fistulae were first managed nonsurgically by Porstmann in 1977 with homemade metallic coils (1). During the intervening twenty years better catheterization techniques have been developed and our understanding of the clinical outcomings of these lesions has improved. This report discusses the natural history of pulmonary arteriovenous fistulae, including the neurological and other complications, the importance of family screening in the detection of asymptomatic family members, the diagnostic strategy and the description of improved techniques for embolotherapy with stainless steel coils.

Restoration of seagrass beds has been suggested as a method to correct declining vegetation cover in shallow waters. Secondary production of the polychaete Kinbergonuphis simoni was used to evaluate faunal equivalency of newly restored (2-yr-old) seagrass beds to beds that are mature (at least 17 yr old) in an embayment in Tampa Bay, Florida. Information on density of polychaetes, size structure, reproductive characteristics, and production (growth increment summation method) was collected from May 1989 to February 1991 from individuals within monthly sediment cores from both planted and natural seagrass beds.

Four patients aged 8 to 54 years, under mechanical ventilation, presented with sudden tension mediastinal emphysema and exhibited typical clinical symptoms of compromised venous return. Diagnosis of tension mediastinal emphysema was confirmed by CT. A percutaneous catheter with a diameter varying from F12 to F20 was inserted in the anterior mediastinal compartment with CT control and connected to a waterseal aspiration.
