Objectives Thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) can predict severe disease in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, no reports have addressed the predictive value of TARC with the widespread use of vaccines and medications for COVID-19 during the Omicron variant period of the pandemic. Methods This single-center prospective cohort study enrolled COVID-19 patients admitted to our institution between December 1, 2021, and August 15, 2022.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 381 patients with non-small cell lung cancer who received ICI therapy from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2022. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) and the secondary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS).

Embryonic stem (ES) cells are pluripotent stem cells that can produce all cell types of an organism. ES cells proliferate rapidly and are thought to experience high levels of intrinsic replication stress. Here, by investigating replication fork dynamics in substages of S phase, we show that mammalian pluripotent stem cells maintain a slow fork speed and high active origin density throughout the S phase, with little sign of fork pausing.

Magnetization of TlBaCuO and LaSrCuO exhibited the tendency to be saturated in high magnetic fields at low temperatures, suggesting the precursor behavior toward the formation of a ferromagnetic order. It was found that the power of temperature obtained from the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity is ~4/3 and ~5/3 for Bi-2201 and LaSrCuO, respectively, and is ~4/3 at high temperatures and ~5/3 at low temperatures in TlBaCuO.

Materials And Methods: Cells that highly expressed aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1 (ALDH1A1) were separated from HepG2 cells, a human HCC cell line, by fluorescence-activated cell sorting, and CSCs were identified based on the formation of tumorspheres.
In recent years, normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) has emerged in conversation surrounding organ preservation and transplantation techniques with the goal of improving patient and clinical outcomes. This is in great attempt to address the rate of non-utilization and the shortage of available organs in kidney transplantation. This focus in mind, normothermic perfusion presents itself as a potential tool to mimic physiological conditions and improve current preservation methods, such as static cold storage.

Accordingly, early administration of favipiravir to SARS-CoV-2-infected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients may be expected to suppress disease progression.
Methods: A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial was conducted to demonstrate efficacy of favipiravir in reducing disease progression in patients with mild COVID-19.
The cartilage-conduction hearing aid (CC-HA) is a new hearing device that is suitable for use in patients with conductive hearing loss. It has been 5 years since the introduction of the CC-HA. Although the number of users has increased, the CC-HA is not yet widely known.

SBS patients can have significant side effects and complications, the etiology of which remains ill-defined. Thus, facilitating intestinal adaptation in SBS remains a major research focus.

Compared to widespread electrocardiographs, magnetocardiographs commonly have a higher spatial resolution, which is expected to lead to early diagnoses of ischemic heart disease and high diagnostic accuracy of ventricular arrhythmia, which involves the risk of sudden death. However, as the conventional superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetocardiographs require large magnetically shielded rooms and huge running costs to cool the SQUID sensors, magnetocardiography is still unfamiliar technology.

Given the important role of the gut in many signaling cascades throughout the body, SBS results in disruption of many pathways and imbalances in various hormones. Due to the inability to meet sufficient nutritional needs, an intravenous form of nutrition, total parental nutrition (TPN), is administered.

The factors influencing titer of antibodies against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) among healthcare workers for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is unclear.
Methods: We conducted a 6-month longitudinal prospective study in Japanese healthcare workers in a tertiary care hospital for COVID-19.
The targeting of membrane proteins that are activated in cancer stem cells (CSCs) represents one of the key recent strategies in cancer therapy. The present study analyzed ion channel expression profiles and functions in pancreatic CSCs (PCSCs). Cells strongly expressing aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1 (ALDH1A1) were isolated from the human pancreatic PK59 cell line using fluorescence‑activated cell sorting, and PCSCs were identified based on tumorsphere formation.

We previously reported the expression of and important roles for several ion transporters in various gastrointestinal cancers, which have potential as novel targets for cancer treatment; however, the significance of LRRC8A in gastric cancer (GC) remains unclear.
Materials And Methods: Knockdown experiments were performed by transfecting human GC cell lines with LRRC8A siRNA.
Background: Although clinical trials have investigated the addition of pembrolizumab to chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer, none have investigated the addition of chemotherapy to pembrolizumab.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 71 NSCLC patients including 33 treated with pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy (combination therapy group) and 38 treated with pembrolizumab monotherapy (monotherapy group) from 1 May 2016 to 31 August 2020.
Results: Eleven of 33 (33.
Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with pre-existing respiratory diseases have been excluded in clinical trials of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy, and it is unknown whether the same degree of response can be expected as that in patients without pre-existing respiratory diseases and if they are associated with increased risk for various immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and ICI pneumonitis. This study aimed to evaluate predictive factors of clinical response, prognostic factors, risk factors of irAEs, and ICI pneumonitis in NSCLC patients with or without pre-existing respiratory diseases.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 180 NSCLC patients who received ICI monotherapy of nivolumab, pembrolizumab, or atezolizumab from 1 January 2016 to 31 March 2019.
Objective: To clarify what future problems must be resolved and how clinical findings of SARS-CoV-2 infection differ from those of cHCoV infection.
Methods: Patients and Methods Clinical characteristics of 14 patients with laboratory-confirmed Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and 5 patients with cHCoV pneumonia admitted to our institution and treated up to March 8, 2020, were retrospectively analyzed.
Results: On admission, 10 patients had pneumonia, 5 of whom had pulmonary shadows detectable only via computed tomography (CT).
Background: Airway obstruction due to decreased airway diameter and increased incidence of mucus plugs has not been directly observed in asthma exacerbation. We studied the changes in the inner diameter of the airway (Din) and the frequency of mucus plugs by airway generation in patients with asthma exacerbation. We compared these patients to those in a stable phase using high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT).
