Article Synopsis
  • - In Japan, all pregnant women are tested for rubella antibodies to identify subclinical infections, leading to this study that examined the effectiveness of these tests in detecting rubella infections in a single medical center.
  • - Out of 14,965 women, only 186 were found to be positive for rubella-specific IgM antibodies, but only one was clinically diagnosed with rubella, showcasing that many positive results did not indicate an actual active infection.
  • - The study concluded that relying solely on rubella HI and IgM test results is insufficient for detecting subclinical rubella, and educating pregnant women about these results could help reduce anxiety and prevent unnecessary pregnancy terminations.

L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1, slc7a5) supplies large neutral amino acids to highly proliferative cells. LAT1 is an attractive therapeutic target for treating overactive T cell-mediated immune disorders due to its high expression in activated T cells, but not in resting T cells. Here, we demonstrate that LAT1 plays a crucial role in T helper (Th) 17-mediated autoimmune arthritis in SKG mice, an animal model of human rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Significance: Intrinsic optical signals (IOS) generated in the cortical tissue as a result of various interacting metabolic processes are used extensively to elucidate the underlying mechanisms that govern neurovascular coupling. However, current IOS measurements still often rely on bulky, tabletop imaging systems, and there remains a dearth of studies in freely moving subjects. Lightweight, miniature head-mounted imaging devices provide unique opportunities for investigating cortical dynamics in small animals under a variety of naturalistic behavioral settings.
