Does Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia Increase Nocturnal Blood Pressure?

By ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), nocturnal blood pressure (BP) may increase before heart rate (HR), but the details are unknown.Among 102 participants who underwent ABPM, > 90% on hypertension treatment, the averaged BP (HR) data were examined for the time at which the BP (HR) increased significantly above the mean midnight BP (HR) between 3:00 AM - 9:00 AM in all patients and in subgroups divided by clinical variables. Participants were also divided according to the respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) index, which is the ratio of the longest and shortest RR intervals obtained under normal breathing, and the effects of RSA on the nocturnal hemodynamics were examined.

Endovascular Treatment of Large Proximal Basilar Artery Fenestrated Aneurysms: Overlapping Stent with Coil Embolization-A Case Report.

This detailed case report presents and discusses the endovascular treatment of a large proximal basilar artery fenestrated aneurysm (PBAFA). Aneurysms occur rarely at the vertebrobasilar junction, with a moderate proportion of cases presenting fenestrations. Considering the high risk associated with posterior circulation aneurysms, including estimated rupture risk, periprocedural complications, or treatment difficulties in surgical procedures, endovascular treatment options are becoming increasingly favored, particularly considering the advancements in stent and flow diverter techniques.

The flesh oil content (OC) is a crucial commercial indicator of avocado maturity and directly correlates with its nutritional quality. To meet export standards and optimize edible characteristics, avocados must be harvested at the appropriate stage of physiological maturity. The significant variability in OC during maturation, without any external morphological indicators, poses a longstanding challenge.

Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a relatively rare inherited arrhythmic disease that causes sudden cardiac death, and is caused by mutations in the cardiac ryanodine receptor (RyR2) or sarcoplasmic reticulum protein calsequestrin 2 gene (CASQ2). A 16-year-old man was diagnosed with CPVT and was implanted with a Subcutaneous-implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (S-ICD), but defibrillation electrode detachment occurred early after placement. We suspected that a two-incision technique was the possible cause.

Macroscopic and microscopic characterization of fluorescence properties of multiple sweet pepper cultivars (Capsicum annuum L.) using excitation-emission matrix and UV induced fluorescence imaging.

Sweet peppers are a popular vegetable with various surface colors, such as green, purple, red, or yellow. To characterize the unique fluorescence properties associated with a broad range of sweet peppers of various colors (14 varieties), a fluorescence spectrofluorometer and imaging were used. The results showed that all cultivars in the experiment had blue fluorescence emissions when excited with light in the UV-A region, while chlorophyll fluorescence could be observed in green peppers.

Response of sweet pepper autofluorescence against solar radiation.

Although fish and its related products are good sources of protein and unsaturated fatty acids, like omega-3 in the human diet, their shelf-life is limited by biochemical and microbial changes. In this study, a front-face fluorescence spectroscopy technique was used to acquire Excitation-emission matrices (EEM) to monitor Japanese dace (Tribolodon hakonensis) fish freshness degradation during storage. EEM of Japanese dace fish parts (intact eyeball and surface-containing scales), excitation from 220 to 585 nm and emissions from 250 to 600 nm, were measured at different times during storage.

UV excited fluorescence image-based non-destructive method for early detection of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) spoilage.

The soon spoiled strawberries need to be classified from healthy fruits in an early stage. In this research, a machine vision system is proposed for inspecting the quality of strawberries using ultraviolet (UV) light based on the excitation-emission matrix (EEM) results. Among the 100 fruits which were harvested and stored under 10 °C condition for 7 days, 7 fruits were confirmed to be spoiled by using a firmness meter.

Acute Myocardial Infarction Due to Coronary Occlusion Caused by a Metastatic Cardiac Tumor Arising from Squamous Cell Lung Cancer: An Evaluation with Three-dimensional Transthoracic Echocardiography.

A 60-year-old man developed acute myocardial infarction from the total occlusion of the right coronary artery via metastatic squamous lung cancer and was treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Computed tomography and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) revealed a metastatic tumor, and three-dimensional TTE was useful for determining the size and location of the tumor in relation to the coronary artery. Six months after PCI, the patient died, and an autopsy confirmed extensive metastasis to the heart and nearby vessels as detected by three-dimensional TTE.

Prediction of protein and oil contents in soybeans using fluorescence excitation emission matrix.

To investigate the potential of fluorescence spectroscopy in evaluating soybean protein and oil content, excitation emission matrix (EEM) was measured on 34 samples of soybean flours using a front-face measurement, and the accuracy of the protein and oil content prediction was evaluated. The EEM showed four main peaks at excitation/emission (Ex/Em) wavelengths of 230/335, 285/335, 365/475, and 435/495 nm. Furthermore, second derivative synchronous fluorescence (SDSF) spectra were extracted from the EEMs, and partial least square regression and support vector machine models were developed on each of the EEMs and SDSF spectra.

Evaluation of the cytocompatibility of methacrylate resin-based root canal sealers with osteoblast-like cells.

This study compared the cytocompatibilities of three methacrylate resin-based root canal sealers [MetaSEAL Soft (MSS), Hybrid Root SEAL (HRS), and Superbond Sealer (SBS)] in either freshly mixed or set conditions using the Kusa A1 osteoblastic cell line. The three sealers and an epoxy resin-based sealer (AH Plus; AHP) were extracted in culture medium; cell growth and osteogenic properties were analyzed. Cell adhesion on set sealers was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy.

A Novel Bioactive Endodontic Sealer Containing Surface-Reaction-Type Prereacted Glass-Ionomer Filler Induces Osteoblast Differentiation.

Surface‑reaction‑type prereacted glass-ionomer (S‑PRG) fillers exhibit bioactive properties by the release of multiple ions. This study examined whether a novel endodontic sealer containing S‑PRG fillers (PRG+) has the capacity to induce osteoblast differentiation. Kusa‑A1 osteoblastic cells were cultured with extracts of PRG+, PRG- (an experimental sealer containing S‑PRG‑free silica fillers), AH Plus (an epoxy-resin‑based sealer), and Canals N (a zinc-oxide noneugenol sealer).

Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 Is Up-Regulated in Response to Lipopolysaccharide via P38/Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase in Dental Pulp Cells and Promotes Mineralization.

Increased expression of the transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channel has been detected in carious tooth pulp, suggesting involvement of TRPA1 in defense or repair of this tissue after exogenous noxious stimuli. This study aimed to elucidate the induction mechanism in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation and the function of TRPA1 in dental pulp cells. Stimulation of human dental pulp cells with LPS up-regulated TRPA1 expression, as demonstrated by quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting.

Aim: To elucidate mechanisms by which mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA expression in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages.

Methodology: Mineral trioxide aggregate extracts were prepared by immersing set ProRoot MTA in culture medium.

Autofluorescence changes of tomato surface tissues during overripening.

We investigated the autofluorescence of tomato surface tissues during overripening at 25 °C for 13 days. Microscopic images and fluorescence spectra of tissues, including the epidermis and cuticle, were examined (excitation at 360 nm), revealing that the autofluorescence changes were related to the epidermis, particularly the fluorophores in the cuticle.

Blood Pressure Increases Before Pulse Rate During the Nocturnal Period in Hypertensive Patients.

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is used for the evaluation of out-of-office blood pressure (BP), however, knowledge concerning the detailed behavior of nocturnal blood pressure (BP) and pulse rate (PR) is limited.A total of 190 participants (64 ± 15 years, 46.3% males) underwent ABPM for diagnosis of hypertension or evaluation of hypertensive therapy.

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF1α) is a transcriptional factor that plays a key role in the regulation of various molecules expressed in hypoxic conditions. Ischemic/hypoxic conditions are regarded as a distinct characteristic of dental pulp inflammation due to the encasement of pulp tissue within the rigid tooth structure. This study was performed to examine the role of HIF1α in the regulation of interleukin (IL)-6, a proinflammatory cytokine expressed in inflamed dental pulp, in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated human dental pulp cells (hDPCs).

Strontium ranelate promotes odonto-/osteogenic differentiation/mineralization of dental papillae cells in vitro and mineralized tissue formation of the dental pulp in vivo.

This study examined the effects and mechanisms of strontium ranelate (SrRn)-a drug used to treat osteoporosis-on the proliferation and differentiation/mineralization of cloned dental pulp-like cells (mouse dental papillae cells; MDPs). It also determined whether topical application of SrRn to exposed dental pulp tissue promotes the formation of mineralized tissue in vivo. The MDPs were cultured with or without SrRn, and cell proliferation, odonto-/osteoblastic gene expression, mineralized nodule formation, and Akt phosphorylation were evaluated.

We experienced a case of ascending colon cancer with synchronous isolated right external iliac and inguinal lymph node metastases but without any regional lymph node metastasis. An 83-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to anemia.

The intentional oblique transection double stapling technique in anterior resection for rectal cancer.

The double stapling technique (DST) is an intestinal reconstruction technique that has been widely adopted in anterior resection (AR) for rectal cancer. However, anastomotic leakage (AL) after the operation remains a major concern for colorectal surgeons. The sharp-angled corner of the remnant rectum that is often created by the ordinary DST can be a risk factor for AL.

Classification of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease using rapid immunoassay of serum type IV collagen compared with liver histology and other fibrosis markers.

Aim: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can progress to non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). We investigated the association among serum type IV collagen level, liver histology, and other fibrosis markers in NAFLD progression.

Methods: We evaluated 184 patients diagnosed with NAFLD following biopsy, including 89 males and 95 females with an average age of 52.

Background: A new anesthesia system, the E-CAIOVX (GE Healthcare) enables the continuous monitoring of oxygen consumption (VO2) and carbon dioxide elimination (VCO2) during the surgical operation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic role of intraoperative baseline VO2 and VCO2 in an emergency open abdominal operation.

Methods: A total of 103 patients who had an emergency open abdominal operation were enrolled in the study.
