Meiotic pachytene checkpoints monitor the failure of homologous recombination and synapsis to ensure faithful chromosome segregation during gamete formation. To date, the molecular basis of the mammalian pachytene checkpoints has remained largely unknown. We here report that mouse HORMAD1 is required for a meiotic prophase checkpoint that eliminates asynaptic oocytes.

However, they have not yet been fully used, in part due to the high incidence of delayed graft function. Although urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin is a well-known early biomarker for renal injury after kidney transplantation, its usefulness is limited in cases with delayed graft function because of the unavailability of a urine sample.

Recently, it has been found that several constitutional translocations, especially those that involve chromosome 22, take place utilizing palindromic sequences on 22q11 and on the partner chromosome. Analysis of translocation junction fragments shows that the breakpoints of such palindrome-mediated translocations are localized at the center of palindromic AT-rich repeats (PATRRs).

Indications for tracheotomy in these patients were upper airway obstruction (44 patients), recurrent aspiration pneumonia (28 patients), retained secretions (23 patients), prolonged mechanical ventilation (18 patients), chronic respiratory failure (9 patients), central respiratory failure (5 patients), and gastroesophageal reflux (8 patients). Most of the patients underwent tracheotomy at the age of 0-5 years or 10-19 years.

Aneuploidy is one of the most common and serious pregnancy complications in humans. Most conceptuses with autosomal aneuploidy die in utero, resulting in early pregnancy loss. However, some fetuses with aneuploidy survive to term but suffer from disorders associated with congenital anomalies and mental retardation, such as Down syndrome with trisomy 21.

Study Design: Case-control genetic association study.
Methods: We studied the genetic variations within the HCRT gene.
Three new species of shoot fly, Atherigona Rondani (subgenus Acritochaeta Grimshaw) (Diptera: Muscidae), are described from northern Thailand, based on morphological characteristics of males. Unique features of A. komi sp.

Multiple exonic deletions were identified in 8/84 patients without mutation and 0/41 patients with missense mutations. Our findings indicate that while microdeletions are not rare in SCN1A-negative patients, they are not likely to be present simultaneously with other SCN1A mutations.

[PSI+], [RNQ+] and [URE3] are well characterized prions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and represent the aggregated states of the translation termination factor Sup35, a functionally unknown protein Rnq1, and a regulator of nitrogen metabolism Ure2, respectively. Overproduction of Sup35 induces the de novo appearance of the [PSI+] prion in [RNQ+] or [URE3] strain, but not in non-prion strain.

In FCMD, the SVA insertion occurs in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of the fukutin gene. The pathogenic mechanism for FCMD is unknown, and no effective clinical treatments exist.

One of the best studied examples is the recurrent constitutional t(11;22) in humans that is mediated by potentially cruciform-forming sequences at the breakpoints, palindromic AT-rich repeats (PATRRs). We previously demonstrated that polymorphisms of PATRR sequences affect the frequency of de novo t(11;22)s in sperm samples from normal healthy males.

Reproductive organ of males was dissected to determine the testis in the pupal stage, 3-day-old flies and 7-day-old flies and observed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). SEM displayed a smooth surface which is occasionally penetrated by tracheoles.

The aim of this study was to further investigate the mechanisms underlying pre-eclampsia and unexplained FGR.
Methods: We analyzed differentially expressed genes in placental tissue from severe pre-eclamptic pregnancies (n = 8) and normotensive pregnancies with or (n = 8) without FGR (n = 8) using a microarray method.
Objective: To investigate the effect of human contraceptive (HC) as ability to suppress the reproductive success of blow fly, Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) (C. megacephala) and offspring under controlled laboratory conditions.
Methods: Adult C.
Autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy is a familial partial epilepsy syndrome and the first human idiopathic epilepsy known to be related to specific gene defects. Clinically available molecular genetic testing reveals mutations in three genes, CHRNA4, CHRNB2 and CHRNA2. Mutations in CHRNA4 have been found in families from different countries; the Ser280Phe in an Australian, Spanish, Norwegian and Scottish families, and the Ser284Leu in a Japanese, Korean, Polish and Lebanese families.

Our previous study revealed that reduced IDO expression in the placenta induces defective feto-maternal immuno-tolerance leading to the onset of pre-eclampsia. In our present study, we assessed the effects of low placental IDO activity as an antioxidant.

SCA type 27 (SCA27) is a rare type of SCA caused by mutations in the fibroblast growth factor 14 gene (FGF14). FGF14 disruption caused by a de novo reciprocal chromosomal translocation between chromosomes 13 and 21 was identified in a patient with the phenotype of paroxysmal non-kinesigenic dyskinesia (PNKD).

A glutamine/asparagine (Q/N)-rich C-terminal domain is necessary for the propagation of [PIN(+)], whereas the N-terminal region is non-Q/N-rich and considered the nonprion domain. Here, we isolated numerous single-amino-acid mutations in Rnq1, phenotypically similar to Rnq1Δ100, which inhibit [PSI(+)] propagation in the [PIN(+)] state, but not in the [pin(-)] state, when overproduced.

Xlr6 belongs to the Xlr gene family, which includes a component of the axial/lateral element of the synaptonemal complex, Sycp3, and its transcripts are abundant in the fetal ovary and adult testis. Immunostaining and Western blot analysis demonstrate a diffuse localization pattern for this protein in the nucleus and an association with chromatin during the leptotene and zygotene stages.

The aim of our current study was to determine whether genetic alterations in the SYCP3 gene are associated with female infertility in humans. We examined sequence variations of the SYCP3 gene in genomic DNA from 88 Japanese women with unexplained infertility and 165 samples obtained from a fertile control group.

Congenital hepatic fibrosis associated with biliary cysts/dilatations is the most common extrarenal manifestation in ARPKD and can lead to massive liver enlargement. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ), a member of the ligand-dependent nuclear receptor superfamily, is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the kidneys and liver, and plays important roles in cell proliferation, fibrosis, and inflammation.
