Purpose: Postoperative urinary retention (PUR) is a common complication after prostate enucleation, which leads to an increased length of hospital stay and decreased postoperative satisfaction. This study determined the predictive factors of postoperative urine retention within 1 month after prostate enucleation and investigated whether PUR influences surgical outcomes at the 2-week, 3-month, and 6-month follow-up time points.

Methods: Data were collected from the electronic medical records of 191 patients with benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) during October 2018 to September 2021.

Purpose: This study is centered on the critical role of anterior fibromuscular stroma (AFS) preservation in prostate enucleation, an emerging strategy aimed at minimizing postoperative urinary incontinence-a common concern in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) surgeries. By focusing on postoperative voiding volumes (VV), our research investigates the efficacy of AFS preservation. This approach, distinct in its methodology, is hypothesized to improve urinary function post-surgery, thereby offering a potentially significant advancement in BPH surgical treatments.

Introduction: Urothelial cancers were one of the most common malignancies in patients with kidney transplants. Although radical nephroureterectomy is still the standard of care in current guidelines, studies have shown that significantly improved perioperative outcomes can be achieved for patients who underwent bilateral nephroureterectomy. Our study provides evidence on the outcome of bilateral nephroureterectomy and unilateral nephroureterectomy in kidney recipients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

Purpose: We observed transient elevations in creatinine levels among kidney recipients after three traditional holidays in Taiwan. This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare the changes in eGFR levels after Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, all of which are associated with high-calorie and high-fat diets.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 364 kidney recipients with stable graft function who were following at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Linkou from 2018 to 2020.

Background: New-onset diabetes after transplantation and increased insulin resistance have both been shown to affect graft performance and survival after kidney transplantation. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the predictive roles of different insulin resistance indices on early graft function in kidney transplant recipients.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of non-diabetic patients who received kidney transplantation between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2021.

The synthesis of one-dimensional zinc oxide nanorod photoelectrodes through a chemical solution method and their application in dye-sensitized solar cells are described in this paper. A multiple growth approach was used to fabricate zinc oxide nanorods with varying length-to-diameter ratios, and their dye adsorption properties were characterized using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The zinc oxide photoelectrodes with different length-to-diameter ratios were subsequently incorporated into dye-sensitized solar cells, and their performance and carrier lifetime were analyzed using a solar simulator, monochromatic incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of intraoperative allograft vascular flow on early kidney graft function.

Methods: A total of 159 patients underwent kidney transplantation from January 2017 to March 2022 at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. Graft arterial and venous blood flow was measured separately with a transient time flowmeter (Transonic HT353; Transonic Systems, Inc, Ithaca, NY, United States) after ureteroneocystostomy.

Purpose: Intraoperative hemodynamic instability was proven to be associated with delayed graft function (DGF) after kidney transplantation. This retrospective study aims to find the specific intraoperative hemodynamic parameters as an efficient predicting factor of DGF.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent kidney transplantation between 2020 and 2022 were enrolled and classified into DGF and non-DGF groups.

Background: The literature has shown a significant association between body mass index (BMI) and patient and graft outcomes after renal transplantation. The purpose of this study was to reveal the effect of obesity on graft function in a Taiwanese kidney transplant cohort.

Methods: Two hundred consecutive patients who received kidney transplantation were enrolled in our study.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to identify the early signs and diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) epididymitis/epididymo-orchitis in patients who were diagnosed incidentally, along with evaluating their treatment outcomes.* -
  • It analyzed 25 patients who underwent surgery from 2000 to 2019, revealing that most presented with a palpable scrotal mass and that 76% successfully completed TB chemotherapy, with 79% showing full recovery.* -
  • The findings highlight the challenges in diagnosing TB epididymitis, emphasizing the importance of complete chemotherapy post-surgery and suggesting long-term follow-up due to the risk of relapse.*

Objectives: Organ allocation is of decisive importance in the current situation of organ shortage. The aim of this study is to compare the long-term graft outcomes of deceased donor recipients before and after the new nationwide allocation system in Taiwan.

Methods: From April 1, 2000 to March 31, 2010, 181 deceased kidney transplantations were reviewed retrospectively, and recipients were divided by the enforcement day (April 1, 2005) of nationwide allocation into group 1 (before) and group 2 (after).

Background: This study aimed to discuss the reasons for kidney donation withdrawal and related factors among the potential donors of living kidney transplant.

Methods: This study was conducted in outpatient departments with purposive sampling. Potential donors received relevant examinations and completed questionnaires when they would donate their kidneys for living related kidney transplant.

Introduction: Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is one of the most common ureteric complications after kidney transplantation that might cause symptomatic infections which deteriorate graft function. Surgical reimplantation has been the standard treatment; recently, endoscopic injection has been an alternative approach. We report our endoscopic treatment results and analyze the long-term outcome, even in patients with less optimal graft function.

Background: The albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR) has been shown to be an important prognostic marker in kidney disease. The ACR has been shown to predict graft failure and patient death after kidney transplant.

Methods: From March 1, 2011, to December 31, 2013, we checked the urine ACR and blood for highly sensitive C-reactive protein in 93 kidney recipients who regularly follow up at out institute.

Introduction: Long-term kidney transplantation survival has been limited to cardiovascular-disease-associated death, which may be related to insulin resistance. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) and renal graft function.

Materials And Methods: From January 2013 to March 2015, 55 nondiabetic kidney recipients were reviewed retrospectively with their baseline fasting serum insulin and glucose levels as the basis the following indexes: 1.

Background: The long-term renal outcomes of patients who underwent nephrectomy for traumatic renal injury (TRI) have rarely been reported. Therefore, we investigated the impact of nephrectomy for TRI on long-term renal outcomes.

Methods And Materials: We extracted data from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan from 1999 to 2013 and identified patients with TRI.

Background: Blunt adrenal gland trauma (BAGT) is a potentially devastating event if unrecognized during the treatment course of patients with trauma. Because of its rarity, no current algorithm or consensus exists for BAGT. In the present study, we demonstrated the feasibility and safety of transcatheter angiographic embolization (TAE) in BAGT and analyzed the clinical presentation and outcome of BAGT.

Background: Adrenal gland trauma (AGT) is potentially devastating if unrecognized during the treatment of trauma patients. Because of the adrenal glands' rich vascularity, they often hemorrhage upon traumatic impact. However, there has been no conclusion about the indications for intervention in cases of hemorrhage after AGT.
