[Tobacco smoking and lung cancer: relative risk for Kreyberg groups I and II (author's transl)].

This paper provides additional information about the not yet completely solved relation of smoking and lung cancer of group Kreyberg II. This problem was analysed for the first time in Austria. In retrospective case-control-study datas were collected about smoking habits of 494 male patients with verivied lung cancer (440 cases belonging to group Kreyberg I and 54 to group Kreyberg II) and 1000 controls.

[Prevention of thromboembolism in surgical gynecology].

It is reported on the prophylaxis of thromboembolic diseases with acetylsalicylic acid (Micristin) in gynaecological surgery. The number of thromboembolic complications clinically ascertained was diminished from 3,25% (without Micristin) to 0,82% (with Micristin). Side effects were rarely observed, laboratory control was not necessary, Low-dose-heparin-prophylaxis were executed on contraindications and incompatibilities of Micristin.

[Influence of the mode of collection on the result of blood cultures].

In a prospective study of 133 patients with suspicion of a septic process the influence of the withdrawal modus on the bacteriologic result was examined using an open blood culture system. For patients without pretreatment with antibiotics or without high temperature the "one time" withdrawal of the blood culture should be preferred to the "multi-time" method. A multi-time withdrawal showed similar and better evidence quotas with patients without fever and under influence of antibiotics.

[Pharmacokinetics of indomethacin and indomethacin metabolites administered continuously to patients with healthy or damaged kidneys].

After oral administration of 75 mg Indomethacin dlimination half-life of the unchanged drug is not altered in patients with severely impaired renal function. In patients with renal insufficiency half-life of Indomethacin plus metabolites is twice that of the normal value. Repeated daily administration of 75 mg for 8 days does not influence Indomethacin kinetics.

[Premature rupture of fetal membranes and premature labor].

The portion of early rupture of the membranes among 521 premature births from 1962 to 1971 was 43.4%. The statistically sure effects of the early rupture of the fetal membranes to some irregularities in pregnancy and delivery on 214 premature births are reported, compared with 202 premature births without early rupture of the membranes.

[Quantitative and virus specific serum IgM detection in newborns (author's transl)].

Serum IgM concentration was determined in umbilical cord blood samples from 1000 newborns. 34 cases presenting elevated IgM values (greater than or equal to 30 mg%) were tested for virus specific IgM antibodies. We could demonstrate such virus specific IgM antibodies against Cytomegalovirus (4), against Rubella, Influenza A and Influenza B (2 each) and against Coxsackie virus (1).

[Effect of long term treatment with trenimon in chronic progressive polyarthritis].

It is reported on the therapeutic effects with trenimon in patients with rheumatoid arthritis half a year and one year after the end of the treatment. When critically judged the quota of success was 32.5% for the total judgement after half a year.

Diurnal changes of the 2,3-diphosphoglycerate concentration in human red cells and the influence of posture.

The 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) concentration, oxygen half saturation pressure at pH 7.4 (P50), pH in plasma and red cells, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) of venous blood were determined during unrestricted daily activity (series I) throughout 24 hrs as well as during prolonged bed rest until noon (series II). In series I almost synchronous dirunal behavior of P50 2,3-DPG, and plasma pH as well as red cell pH became significantly apparent with highest values in the afternoon.
